Seem I have to fight for every little bit learned even something that seems so straight forward as move to Z

Here are the steps I am taking
1) Select all
2) Placement>Move to z
3) Enter -1 for Z-Coor (original Z location is 1)

All it moves is one of the "ALL" selected entities.

What am I doing incorrectly?

Ken,

Just tried move to Z which by the way I do use often. I have mill prof 2000. Anything that is level in Z gets moved to the selected new Z. All arcs in X,Z or Y,Z do not get moved, also all points do not get moved.

For a major move like you describe, I would use translate, increment instead. Move to Z has limited application as you have found out.

Move to Z is intended to be a "flattener" as I found out recently. I was sent a dxf, which looked fine in 2d, but in 3d, the stuff was all over the map in Z. Each entity was in some XY plane, but Move to Z flattened it all out nicely into one plane.

The drawing habits of some of these professional draftsmen sure have me scratching my head sometimes. Like, would you just scribble down your answers on an exam and hand it in, or would you at least check what you have written once, maybe? :D

After Ken's (Mortec) reply I played around and kinda saw what he was talking about but have not really figured out yet what the move to Z is appropriate for. I looked into the translate function (again!!) and did figure out what I was doing wrong, it now is doing exactly what I thought Move to Z would be for.

Ken, I did explain what move to Z is for. It will bring a selected bunch of XY plane entities to the same plane, at least in XPert it does. Translate is similar except that you would have to find out what the Z values were for each one, whereas Move to Z doesn't care what the original Z values are.

I am not sure, but if the entities have any kind of slope in XZ or YZ, then I think the function Move to Z cannot work, because this would be attempting to force a projection onto a 2d plane. I've thought such a thing could be a handy function in itself, as it would help make certain chain trimming operations a lot simpler.

I know you did explaine Hu, the problem was not your explanation but my limited ability to understand what you were explaining. In the little time I have played around it appears (as you mentioned) not to work with any slope or solid ??
