The main problem with the Hansvedt is that the company is basically out of business. By basically I mean a few of the guys who worked for them bought the name after they closed down and run a repair business under that and a couple other names. Nice machine for the price though.

For a while all the edm's were making the same sort of dc pulses, so you were looking for machine quality, researched burn settings and good programming. Now they have been playing with the voltages and the shape of the dc pulse, so it's a much bigger deal. The bigger names who have been in it longer tend to have better machines, but you pay a lot more.... If you just need to do some edming some times and aren't interested in speed, fine finishes and programming options, then nearly any newer machine will work. Or if you get a deal an older one that still has the burn charts and isn't so old you can't get parts. If you are buying new, or even old, I would ask them to run through a test burn of the basic kind of work you do, while you watch.

I don't know any thing about the Ganesh. Only things I've used lately are newer Mits, Agie and an old Hansvedt, all cnc. I also have a really old manual Hansvedt at home, it's only good for basic stuff and is slow.

thanks guys.

i am going to use it primarily for soft and hard molds and maybe to remove a broken tap here and there. most of the molds i make small are in 2"x4"x1.5" blanks. so i don't need a big machine. and i don't have a lot of floor space either. and like said before. i am going to need to learn how to use and edm.

i'll check out those brands you guys recommended.

once again,
thanks.
