Just to stop the header from telling me I've never posted and I should!

I've made Tom McWire's Desk Top Mill (on the Instructables website) and am now learning more about CNC and CAD/CAM

Software is Mach 3, which I have found is easy to use and it provides more as I learn more.

My little machine is accurate enough to make fins, spacers and other bits for model rocketry and model aircraft.

At the moment I am trying to transition from 2D to 3D but cannot get DesignCAD to make 3D polygons that are recognised by MeshCAM (the only 3D CAM program I can reasonably afford.

Cheers
Nev

Try Alibre Xpress, it's free, and can export .stl's that will work with MeshCAM.

I haven't used DesignCAD in a long time, so can't really help you. Can you post a sample .dxf that I can look at. I might be able to find a workaround for you. Also, you might want to ask on the MeshCAM forum if anyone is using DesignCAD, and how they are doing it if they are.
