got a weird problem, my r2e3 keeps giving me an error when i turn it on/enable axis. The screen just says "jog x, axis limit". Here's some background, a student slammed the quill into z home. the limit switch cracked and i replaced it with oem part. seems to be ok, however the machine doesnt want to let me enable the axis to begin working. i've checked the table limits, the x-axis is close to the limit but not touching. the y-axis is dead smack in the middle. i have manually moved the quill down by rotating the head pulley ( it was jammed previously ).

Basically, table + head limits seem clear, switches are functional(tested with dmm) and wired properly.

Can anyone help out or throw out some ideas as to what this may be?

I still believe you have a open circuit in the limit string. Is there not a long terminal strip in the back of the machine where you can test to see where the @$VDC stops?

Thanks forthe heads up. one of the switches was in fact wired wrong. got that corrected (after i tested for continuity). Now when i start up, when i hit the enable drive/axis button i hear the relay at the rear of the machine switching, but it still kicks up and error and the enable button goes back to red instantly. every time i click the enable the relay clicks and the screen keeps telling me to enable but wont let me. FYI The cord on the bottom of the table that feeds the x axis motor seems loose(wire with twist connector) could that be anything? also i cannot job the table in any axis at any point. thanks again.

well before, when i hit the enable axis button the relay in the power box at rear would flip and the axis button would stay red/not activate readout would say jog x axis limit (as if jammed up). Now that the limit switches are OK, when i hit the enable button i hear the relay at rear box flip and the screen is asking to enable axis drives - when i hit it, it just keeps reading the same message (enable axis) seems like it wants to enable them but it just wont get there. i can almost make out the homing message between the readout's changing/relay flipping and asking me to enable.

There is an 8 pin relay below the x,y,z, drive amps in the side cabinet responsible for enabling the drives by latching on. Make sure this is in good condition.

ok i will check the 8pin relay on monday when i get back to work. How exactly do i check it? heres the thing - this whole problem started when a student jammed the quill up and a limit switch broke. i thought it would be a simple swap of limit switches --> BIG surprise it doesnt seem that easy. any other ideas as to why the machine keeps asking to enable axis(even after repeatedly hitting the button). could it be a bad button panel on the front of machine(ie a button thats constantly depressed).

oh and did i mention that due to construction in our school (:::read:::Stupid people throwing machine shop equipt around like dirty laundry) i no longer have a pc to connect and upload files from!! can i just take a pc with winxppro and use ezlink as previously done?

Is there any chance both of the switches in the quill got broken? One is a limit switch and the other is the 'home' switch. Possibly not adjusted quite right?

i have purchased and replaced the zlimit and home switches. i believe that they were labeled #1 + #2 on wiring diagrams. i did not replace the 3rd switch which was located on the lower right hand side becuase it seemed to be fine when i took it out. all switches/wiring were tested for continuity and functionality. when i hit the enable switch it seems like a relay just doesnt want to stick and let me move on.

All these limit switches are in a string, wired in series, so any one of these open will create a situation that tells the control that it is in a limit condition. Thus, do yo have 24 VDC at the last switch? You need a schematic. As I said before, I remember going along a terminal strip in the back of the machine, and being able to see at which switch the 24 VDC stops.

24VDC was tested at the rear distribution panel for the switches. all seems well. we tripped and tested each breaker. is there any other relays or panels to debug? could it be that the front input panel has button that is sticking in a down position(as if selected by user)??

hey all,
i've rechecked the limit switches at the face of the machine, all seems well - as per original wiring diagram. what methods can be used to check the side panel relays for xyz?? when i hit the enable axis button i can see(with the help of an assistant)these relays clicking, but they seem as if they are clicking over and not sticking in position? what can cause this problem. in the transition between the relays clicking i can see the screen switch between "enable axis" and "move home execute". this seems really weird.
