I need to connect my laptop to a Hurco KM1 machine that I have in order to save and load programs using the master program. Now I have a very old laptop that has a RS232 but whenever I try to save using the laptop and the RS232 cable supplied from a Hurco dealer the program reports "error in tape save." I'm not sure whether the problem is at the cable, laptop, or the Hurco KM1 unit.

Now I would like to use a newer, updated RS232 cable with a newer laptop. Have any of you guys had any good luck or experiences with RS232 to USB or PCMCIA to RS232?

My newer laptop is a IBM T42 with Windows XP Pro SP2.

I'm looking at cables, adapters, and PCMCIA slot cards.

Thank you, I do appreciate it. :)
