I know its gruesome and morbid but I have a valid reason. Last night I was busy working on the lathe when my wife walks in behind me and accidentually scares me. I flinched pretty good. Nothing happened, thank goodness, but I tried to explain how dangerous these tools can be.

She seemed almost in disbelief despite me telling her of how easy it is to be drawn into a turning chuck.

So, as sick as it is. . . I remember seeing a few pictures on this site of the guy that got sucked in and was mangled beyond belief. I have searched and searched and cant find them any longer. I would like to show her just how severe accidents can be. Maybe it will teach her something. Anyone have a link ?

I know its sick..... sorry, just the best example I can remember to the dangers of machinery

The best way of dealing with this issue is to show your wife how to properly approach a person operating a machine. They should approach you from the front side in your field of vision. She should not make a sound until you look at her and recognize that she is there. I had a guy come into the shop once and tap me on the shoulder while my head was inside a vertical machining center doing a setup, made me jump and bang my head into a drill bit hanging down from the tool changer. Needless to say I had a few choice words for our visitor. I think you can get your point across without that gruesome lathe photo, I still have that picture in my head:eek: Hope this helps.
