Can anyone give me the skinny on the taig mill vs the sherline, imports (homier)

I've read some info on them, but looking for first hand info.

Thanks,

Philip

I've been using the Taig mill for about three months now. I have had no problems with it, and it runs flawlessly. I recently re-adjusted the x axis nut because I wasn't happy with the backlash,(.005) but now have it down to .0005! I run the mill via Mach 2 latest version and it is just great. Using Mach 2 you can increase the motor frequencies and get slightly faster rapids. I found that the standard 30 ipm is fine however. Anyway, it has made me many parts already, and it is built beautifully. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Phil

I am thinking about a Taig myself...
Can't you compensate for the backlash in the backlash comp?

Also How do you guys feel about being able to cut 5/16 cast iron plates on the rotary 4th pos. ?

Cutting screw machines cams is like doing profile 2D sheets.

Any info would help.
thanks

Have you ever cut any metal around 5/16 thick?
