Hi signman, Have you not read the thread below?
In answer to your question - Taney is a bloody ripper bloke who will look after you till the cows come home! If he tells you that he will do something - he will do it!
The Excitech is a fantastic machine! You have made a wise choice!
Relax, read the Excitech cnc Router Purchase thread and be happy in the knowledge that you will be " Excited "

Signmad, a couple of years ago i was reluctant to purchase from China. However the further i researched these machines the more confident i became.
The pioneers in buying the Excitechs were " Esmae and Jimmy 007 " who both wrote of their purchase and the performance of the machines. That was enough for me. We sent our money to Taney at sh-cnc and they were absolutely a delight to deal with . Even now - about 8 months after our purchase, if we have any queries i know that i can send Taney an Email and he will answer very quickly.
The only hiccup with the purchase was caused by myself because i did not appoint a Customs Broker/ Receiver to handle our container at this end of the shipping. By the time the shipping company informed me that i needed to organise it myself the container had arrived. This caused a one week delay. So make sure to find a Broker as soon as you order the machine. If you do not know one - just look in the yellow pages.
Taney will send you all of the paperwork that you need for the Customs Clearing. You can then forward it to your Broker.
I am currently looking at importing some trailers from China. But in this case i do not have anybody to verify the potential suppliers. May have to fly over there to check them out first. I have read some real horror stories on alibaba.com about shonky suppliers from China.
Fortunately, this is not an issue with Excitech Routers.

rocket67 08-05-2008, 09:28 AM G`day Heath, Any news on the arrival of your machine yet?
Hope you have been getting lots of practice with your software. What about router bits?
Ramon is working our machine tomorrow ( Wednesday ) and i am going to take my camera to work in the hope of getting some good photos showing the basic operation of the machine. I will attempt to post photos and a commentary of each step in going from programming on the computer through to the finished product. Will post them tomorrow night.

PS Even though i am a lifelong Collingwood supporter - Heath Shaw should be sacked!
highoctanecnc 08-05-2008, 09:48 AM Signmad,
I wouldn't be too worried. Excitech's are good machines, we've sold a few of them ourselves. The language barrier with the factory could be an issue. But with the help you'll get on these forums, I think you'll be all right. If you need anything, I'll help you any way I can.
My advice is, be patient when going through the learning curve. Don't expect in all to absorb in one day. However, the machines are really easy to use. My background is in signs, every since I was about 7 or 8 years old. I have used all kinds of plotters and routers, and now I make routers. And the Excitech machines with the DSP handheld controller are well-suited for the average sign shop (though I wish you'd have bought one of ours ). I'm here if you need help.

rocket67 08-06-2008, 06:01 AM Check out their site - you can download a catalogue. we bought some of the Whiteside bits from them. Only took one week to get here and price and quality are A1. Somebody posted recently of where to get very low cost bits - i will look for it later.
Jim, Josh, Bill, Joey, Keith, etc - I have been watching what you guys are doing for quite a while. The camaster website is vey polished, the videos are superb and the machines seem to be excellent quality. Then you would have to also consider the fantastic support that owners receive and it all adds up to a formidable combination! Camaster is certainly a business that is going places. This is a rare mix in the business world. Owners that have a passion for their business deserve every success! I take my hat off to you all!

Heath,
I would use a 3/16" or 1/4" single flute upcut carbide bit, with a feed around 3m/min+ @ 18,000rpm. Best to check the chip loading of the particular cutter though and set the feed to that. With acrylic you need to be removing chips or the acrylic melts and leaves a terrible edge finish. If the chips are sticking together then either the feed is too slow or the spindle is too fast. Sometimes you may need to decrease the spindle rpm to keep the cutter making chips and not melting (rather than upping the feed rate at a set spindle rpm, as doing that can sometimes overload the cutter and break it).
Hope this helps.
Shannon.

Jim, It has been a great experience so far. Have enjoyed every minute of it!
Somehow the word integrity does not come into my mind when i think of our friend carvin!
We have all come a long way. Your knowledge of cnc Routers is incredible and you have made some great friends with the camaster guys.
Buying the Excitech was one of the best business decisions we have made. Routered panels used to be a pain in the behind to us. Now we are supplying more of them all of the time, and it is a very smooth workflow.
I see on Kustom`s shopsabre thread that he is very busy. Great!
To carvin i would say - may the fleas of.... no, no, no. Stop it!

rocket67 08-18-2008, 09:20 AM G`day Heath, Exciting times for you. I guess you will have your machine in a couple of weeks.
Looks like we will both be learning at the same time. I have to become our backup router man, as we are becoming too busy for Ramon to keep up.
For me it will be the programming side of it that i need to learn. Perhaps we can help each other. My first lesson is on Wednesday. Will let you know how it goes.
By the way - my son has that picture of Shaw and Didak sitting in the ute on his desktop computer. He reckons it is great. I see it on his computer screen every time i go into his office! Thanks!http://cnczone.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

with moving next month its been a blessing as i have had no time to think
about the machine. your going to laugh but i did a couple of tutorials on
ucancam v8, & i think i've got my head around it.
i can export from signlab as (G CODE) & import into ucancam set up tool paths & hope Bingo.
i know i've got stars in my eyes, but i'm clinging onto the hope that i can rip this into the DSP controller & game on. (i know its not that easy)
i just want to get the mother out of the box.
if anything i have found there is a brotherhood in this forum & hopefully
i can re pay you in some way, shape or form.
Taney must be a robot, or super human He has answered every question
i have thrown at him, he has kept me in the loop @ all times

Jimmy007 09-14-2008, 09:18 AM Hey Rocket your timing is perfect mate :-)
Got an email notification of a PM from Cabnet so thought I'd point my browser at this thread while I was here....
First post I see is yours (as the last)... And yes a new exitech owner is eagerly anticipating arrival of his new machine and your more excited than he is!
Good to see.......... And yes, no doubt you and the other regulars here will be giving advice and assistance every step of the way (probably even before the new or expectant machine owners know they need it) LOL!
I most likley wouldn't have bought a machine if it wasn't for CNC Zone and the community here AND I would have had a hard time working out how to make it go after I got it.
Heath- you'll be up and running in no time!
rocket67 09-14-2008, 09:33 AM Where ya been?
Sad to agree - Some things never change - Guess you are referring to the pies being belted ( again ). Need a decent forward line....still!!
How is your machine going? You are an old hand at it now.
Jim sent the email showing the chiploads. He is a great bloke - Never forgets his Aussie mates!
Heath owns a signwriting business and is very experienced with CAD programs, so he will be an Excitech expert in no time.
Hope you stick around!

Rocket,
its made it without a scratch, i have taken the sides of the box and to my suprise they must have re thought the design.
the brain section has been made as a stand alone part.
i'm hoping to have it put together this weekend i need to paint the floor
underneath the unit so this is one of my jobs after work.
i'm no expert not even close but the build looks great.
i'm guessing i'll be asking some stupid questions over the next months
i am curious to know what a VFD meter is?
thanks to all for help, i would never have purchased a machine without
the help from you guys
bring on the weekend
thanks

p.s. sorry rocket about the pies, you need to give cloak the ass.
rocket67 09-15-2008, 05:02 AM G`day Heath, Great news - Superb feeling to see it for the first time.
Hope you take and post some photos when it is all together.
I believe that it is not unusual to have a seperate box housing the electronics, have seen others built the same way.
Ask all the questions you like - there are plenty of us here to help.
The VFD meter is probably what we call the inverter keypad? See photo.
Are you going to watch the big game in Melbourne on the weekend? Sounds like you need a bit of a break! See Kosi got off - lightly! Glad he did - should be a great game.
Cloke was reported to have been ill last week. The pies were all out of replacement players. But agree that they need to get some good forward line players.
Have a good week. Can`t wait to see you fire up the Excitech.

i've been a bit crook, burning the candle at both ends i guess.
hoping early next week to see electrician to power it up.

i have included a photo, as i said to the wife if all else fails at least it looks good.
i'm working sat morning, pulling up old lino at new shop the floor coverings
are going in on monday exciting times.
then sat arvo i'm sitting down with my 2 sons to watch the hawks go about the demo job on the cats.
next week its on!!!!

p.s. sorry for my slackness on not keeping posted
rocket67 09-26-2008, 02:53 AM Heath, When you have time could you take a close up shot of where the DSP cable fits into the box?
Ramon had a bit of strife with our machine today. I believe it is because we bent the pins on the cable when we first fitted it. So please be very careful when you plug it in for the first time - and make sure it is very secure or somebody could trip over it and damage it.
When your electrician wires it up - make him aware that it uses a lot of power upon start up. Therefore he will need to fit a breaker that can handle the initial power up.
Hope you get over your illness quickly.
We are having a big barbie and lots of crownies tomorrow. Go Hawks.
