View Full Version : Vancouver area meet and great?
automizer 07-07-2008, 03:48 PM Hello all,
I am just wondering what the interest would be in getting together to meet. I am thinking maybe a nice pub or restaurant, suggestions? Maybe a place with a nice patio enjoy this summer season.
big_mak 07-12-2008, 06:23 PM Sounds Good a patio in Kits maybe where the scenery is sure to impress!!!!! If the conversation lags, we can just stare at the passers by!:D
automizer 07-15-2008, 02:05 AM Well big_mak I like the way you think.
Ah Vancouver; I have yet to find a better place in the world to people watch.
big_mak 07-15-2008, 09:54 AM Munich is pretty wicked as the patios just spill out into the streets with no fences and the americans stare at you when you have a half litre of Hefeweizen and some sausage fro breakfast!
....have a half litre of Hefeweizen and some sausage fro breakfast!
Two of the major food groups; cereals and meat. Nothing wrong with that as a breakfast; although not being meat eater I would just stick with the cereal.
How about making your get together a barbeque or something like that at one of the GVRD Regional Parks? I think it is possible to reserve picnic areas for groups.
big_mak 07-15-2008, 10:04 AM I'm in.
Let's have some more Vancouverites chime in!!!!
The Fuzz may not appreciate our take on Cereal though!;)
automizer 07-16-2008, 12:31 AM BBQ, breakfast, I'm in. I'm just seeing more and more people from "metro vancouver" show up here and I want to say hi. Never know who your neighbors could be heh heh.
big_mak 07-16-2008, 12:40 AM Was that bbq 4 breakfast?????? I'm in!!!!!!!!!
Where the hell is everyone else? Stuck in the Haas Forum?????

automizer 07-16-2008, 12:44 AM maybe we need to PM a few people
big_mak 07-16-2008, 12:46 AM A kick in the A$$ doesn't really translate on here does it!
Okay, let's tie something down with dates.
I did this for a dinner before WESTEC and it worked, several people turned up and we had a very pleasant evening.
I suggest Campbell Valley Regional Park, September 28, which is a Sunday. It is possible to prebook a group picnic site which I will do. Starting time could be 11:00 am or so and go through into the late afternoon.
I believe that there are facilities for a barbeque at these sites but if necessary I can arrange to bring a barbeque. Alternatively people could just bring some prepared dishes to share.
I can bring at least one 10' by 20' canopy in case the weather is not good.
Family members, 'significant others' (must be politically correct), spouses, wifes, husbands, children, ?, ?, ?, can be included.
The only reason I suggest a date late in September is that I am selfish; I have business commitments in July and August and a vacation starting in August and running into early September.
big_mak 07-16-2008, 01:25 AM I will mark it in my calendar. Are you headed to IMTS Geof? I'll be there hopefully in early september.
Where abouts is that park? Not familiar with it.
If that's too long to wait aut, we could go for a pint or 8 before then as well.
A CNC help group perhaps?
IMTS, No, I don't want to be conned into buying more machines :)
Campbell Valley is in Surrey, between 4th Avenue and 16th Avenue at 200and something Street.
If you want to do something before then we can always arrange a dinner some evening. The thing is finding a location convenient to several people; make some suggestions.
big_mak 07-16-2008, 01:38 AM Geof, You don't need to be conned I can see you are an acute suffer of GAS(Gear acquisition Syndrome)
How about Andale's on Broadway?

Number 21 was installed yesterday. :)
Suggest a selection of dates.
automizer 07-17-2008, 02:02 AM Andale's? Never been there. As for dates say in a few weeks? First week of Aug. maybe?
As for the BBQ in Sept. that time frame sounds good to me. Geof I think that park would be in langley if its at those cross streets. Thats pretty much at the US border. I can bring in a portable BBQ and table. What would be a good menu?
big_mak 07-17-2008, 11:58 AM MMMM Andale's graet mexican food. I sent a contractor from Texas there as he was interested in Mexican food and he swore it was the most authentic he'd had outside of Texas!

I'd definitely be interested in coming to something like this, you can count me in.
big_mak 08-05-2008, 02:22 PM Well on the 29th I will be headed to the Commodore to some Blues dude Rock out!!! Perhaps we can do some pints before hand. andale's is good and parking is a hell of a lot cheaper than Downtown!!!!
Unless you all are into Joe Bonamassa? Tix are relatively cheap as well $40 after the ticketmaster fee's!!!!
automizer 08-07-2008, 12:32 AM 29 its a Friday... count me in for dinner, but I must pass on the blues
dertsap 08-10-2008, 11:52 PM 29th at andale's sounds good , i think i'll skip on the rockout this time around
so whats the verdict in regard to the bbq , Dea's Island has or had a great area for get togethers , and it's fairly centrally located

Unless we get a few more responses the bbq will hardly need the space available at Deas Island. :)
Regarding the 29th I will not be there; not being standoffish, at around dinner time on the 29th I will be aboard a 777 out of O'Hare bound for Heathrow. The time has come for another cruise.:)
big_mak 08-12-2008, 06:20 PM Well when you get into Heathrow you cna have a Pint of Boddy for us!!!!;)
automizer 08-24-2008, 06:14 PM Ok so we are coming up to our first event this Friday. What time are we meeting? and is it just the 4 of us?
big_mak 08-24-2008, 06:41 PM I'm still in for 6pm if that's good. If it means too many people hanging around too long we can make it earlier too.
dertsap 08-24-2008, 07:22 PM 6 sounds fine to me
automizer 08-24-2008, 07:46 PM 6 it is, so still a table for 4?
big_mak 08-25-2008, 12:23 AM I'll call and make a reservation. it's kits on a friday just to be safe. CNC Zoners?
Fantail 08-27-2008, 02:09 AM I'm interested in the bbq. Let me know when and where once it's all sorted out. Geof I thought you were retired!.

I am, sort of. :) Still working a bit on upgraded tooling and machine modifications, and more so on parts for a startup I am involved with. I only want to retire from the day to day hassle, not playing on machines, that would be boring.
automizer 08-27-2008, 10:08 PM Hello Fantail nice to see another coming, you are welcome to join us on Friday as well at andale's
Fantail 08-28-2008, 01:42 PM Hi Guys.....will make the effort and see you all at andale's. Time was 6pm right?.
What name will the reservation be under so I don't stand there like a dummy guessing which table to go to.
big_mak 08-28-2008, 01:44 PM CNC Stoners uh Zoners I mean.
automizer 08-28-2008, 02:09 PM Or if it makes it easy find the table that smells like coolant :-)
big_mak 08-28-2008, 02:17 PM hmm I can see it now people come in noses in the air sniffing, Waiter;" Youl like what you smell?" CNC Dude," Yah that Blaser Swisslube smells Great!!!"
automizer 08-29-2008, 12:11 AM Hey big_mak just making sure were talking about the Andales on Broadway West
big_mak 08-29-2008, 12:17 AM Yah west broadway!!!
Reservation is for 6 at 6, and CNC Zone. I had to spell CNC for the lady who took the reservation so take pity on them, and you may need to resort to the sniff out the machinist tactic.
dertsap 08-29-2008, 01:03 AM just follow the trail of chips
big_mak 09-02-2008, 03:08 PM Hey all who attended.
I had a good time! Was good to meet you all in person. Keep the Chips Flying!
