Ok, so i'm sick of using ATF. I'm having nothing but problems latley with longer CNC programs. Here is my problem, after the program runs for maybe 1/2 hour or so, the ATF seems to wear off and then the x and y axis start binding. I'm running at 10ipm and it seems to jog fine around 30ipm, so I'm fairly sure my gibs aren't to tight.
So, what do you guys recomend for lube, for longer CNC programs (with and without coolant running).

Medium Way Oil is what you want to use.

I always use Mobil One.
as in the engine oil? what weight?
Nick, what Iso grade is medium equivalent too? I see Mcmaster sells 68 and 220. I'm going to guess the 220 is a bit thick for my little taig.

Yes, the 10W30 motor oil. I have used it for years.

I bought medium way oil from the local oil dealer. But I think MSC, etc carries it. A gallon lasts a long time.
As for the weight of way oil, I have no idea.
Way oil has additives that allow it to cling to the ways better, so it's not running off the z-axis as quickly...

ok. I guess I'll call up some local machine shops and see if they have any good local places to look. Thanks again Nick.

Yeah, Mcmaster has it. They also have the Vectra 4, which is the heavier weight stuff. I guess I'll try the motor oil first, then I'll see about ordering actual way oil.
