Hello –
I have an acquaintance on a woodworking forum that I frequent, and he’s interested in a cnc machine that can cut small glass shapes. I mentioned to him that I am a member of this forum (although not very active) and offered to post up a thread on the subject in hopes we might find someone that can put us onto a solution.
In February he stumbled upon a bench top CNC machine designed to score glass exclusively. It was offered by an individual who made them probably in his basement (nothing wrong with that). After speaking with him, he felt a little uneasy, but placed an order anyway since he really needed this capability and its very low price. However, things did not work out and he cancelled the order due to his repeated failures to meet any of the numerous shipping quotes given.
The preference is to find a machine that would do this task, or someone that has built a glass scoring head for a machine that already exists such as the woodworking “Shop Bot” which he has been looking at.
My knowledge and experience in this area is limited to a few weeks of digging a couple of years back when my wife who does stained glass and I were thinking it might be cool to have an automated approach to the glass scoring of a large number of similar pieces. I did come across this forum at the time and learned a little about the MACH software and it’s supposed ability to index a rotational head to keep a cutter tangential to the path (something I think is needed for the glass scoring machine). However, that’s it.
Do any of you folks have any ideas on this subject and can you help us out?
His website with some of his creations can be seen at www.kopperwood.com
Thanks very much,
Lewis
