Hello, everyone.
Does anyone know of any free EDM plans?
or have built/designed a EDM circuit and are willing to share plans with me
Thanks for your help.

The Village Press published an article originally by Robert Langlois in book form, some time ago for a home built EDM, it may still be available from: The Home Shop Machinist. P.O. box 629, Traverse City, Mich 49685 1-800-447-7367
It was US$17.00 when I got my copy.It shows the mechanics and electronics, including schematics for stepper driver etc.

There are no free plans that I have ever heard of.

If you want to learn about EDM from the theory side up download the russian book (translated) from my site:

www.indoor.flyer.co.uk/edm.htm

A patent search will also teach you a heck of a lot.

I bought plans from Camtroncs but would rather build a switched unit than a relaxation based one (RC type) as they are much faster and should be easy these days.

Hm, is there anyone that sells plans out there about a switched unit?
of somthing about the theory behind one?
Thanks for your replies

Like I say have a look at some patents:

http://ep.espacenet.com

Do an advanced search.

No plans for such a unit as far as I know but I would really like to build one myself at some point it should be fairly simple these days. People get hung up on super hightech ways of doing the gap regulation etc but I have even used a sinker EDM manually using the crosslide, I just monitored the current by eye, not as fast but shows it does not have to be too high tech for hobby use. The main thing hobby machines do seem to lack is decent flushing, a decent pump will yeild much improved cutting speeds even with the most crude generator design.

What is your application BTW?

I am just curious :)
What I thought about was making a EDM attachment for the mill for making very precise and small holes.

Please sirs.. Take my doubt and explain what does EDM means ?
I will download the russian book.

Electrical Discharge Machining - in other word the part is produced by a controlled spark erosion process. A search of EDM should probabally bring up some sites.

Hi anon, if you have access to The Model Engineer, an English bi-weekly magazine, and can get the back numbers then there is a complete design to make a small EDM or spark erosion machine, using a stepper motor and the transformer used in a valve radio.
The issues, which dates back to 16th July 1976 are volume 142, no. 3541 and 3542.
You will probably find the books on EBAY or at a model club.
Ian.

Just so ya know if ya plan to build an edm machine then you will no doubt need a cnc mill so you can shape your edm bits. At least where I work thats what our cnc guy does. Fascinating stuff this EDM!!

Hi sanjiv, I'll send them if you'll tell me how to attach them to this zone. Every time I try to attach I get a box with Http//....What do I put after http//
If I can't get it right, send your email address and I'll email it to you direct.

Hey folks, lighten up a little. Here is Graham's site and it works just fine. www.indoor.flyer.co.uk/edm.htm

In fact I have just tried both links he put up and they both work. Check your browser's settings or you security settings.

Totaly agree on the lighten up part, however I get a error 300 if clicking on the edn.pdf link:
The document name you requested (/edm.pdf) could not be found on this server. However, we found documents with names similar to the one you requested.

Available documents:

* /edm.htm (common basename)

Firefox 1.5 on win XP, YMMV

The rest of the links work fine... the site is well worth a visit even without the book....

Hey guys,
I just finished reading Fleming's book. He started a Yahoo group. It's at;
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/edmhomebuilders/

I have just started building the machine, so I don't know how it works yet. I plan to use it as a temporary set it up on my BP S1. It can be built for around $200. The book is available from Lindsay publications for $19.95. It's not worth looking for plans for free, plus Ben will answer e-mail questions. Just my thoughts.

Hi EDM Enthusiasts!
I have built the following EDM Toys from the following plans which I possess:-

1.Build This Space-Age EDM (Manually Driven--No-Motors)
2. A Spark-Erosion Machine (Stepper Motor Controlled)
3.An Workshop EDM (Stepper Controlled Drive)
4.Build This EDM (StepperControlled)
5.Build An Offset EDM (Stepper Controlled, not so good because ,motor control is sticky)

Now I wish to experiment with a CNC -Wire/Die-Sinker EDM.
Any helping guide fom anyone?
Thanks.
