I bought some greaseless polishing compound awhile ago & have only just come to use it. I've got 80, 150 & 300 but I can only get a mop to take the 80 !

I'm using coloured stitch mops, when applying the 150 / 300 bars it just seems to melt the surface a little.

Whats gone wrong & whats the solution ????

What are you polishing? I'm assuming some sort of poymer since you mention "melting"

This would indicate that you're going too fast, too much pressure or both.

I think you have misunderstood, I cannot get the compound onto the mop, speed, pressure etc would be irrelevant as I'm not offerring the work to an empty mop !

Oops sorry, my bad :withstupi

Can't really help though, I only use liquid polishing compound for plastics. Perhaps someone else?

The sticks of compound may have partially dried out while in storage. Try cutting a bit off the end of the stick to expose fresher compound. Warming the stick up before using it to load the buffing wheel may also help. You could warm the whole stick or pass the end of the stick by a propane torch flame to melt it before hitting the wheel. You may need a stiffer buffing wheel to accept the compound.
