First off, you didn't state if you are using a CF card. It must be a CF card. Then pop it in your pc and format the card using the FAT file system. DO NOT use the FAT32 system.

Lastly make sure your I/O channel is set to 4 before inserting the card. You can do this from the settings screen or with parameter 20.

Control is fanuc 18i-TA

7164 - SPN-1 spindle drive error-AL-64 (but on spindle drive display is alarm 24 - SERIAL TRANSFER ERROR)
and 754 - SPINDLE–1 ABNORMAL TORQUE ALM
and 750 - SPINDLE SERIAL LINK START FAULT.

Noise or HW defect?

You have an older model vertical which requires an SRAM card. Nowadays they are a bit more expensive than a standard memory card. The size you'll be looking for (to be safe) is 4MB (that's right MB not GB). The cards will go up to 8MB, but your machine may not like it. The SRAM card has a battery in it that the machine receives a pulse from. That's why your getting the spurious serial spindle alarm (no battery in the card you're using).
