Hello all,
I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 with EMC2 and set it up to run a 4 axes CNC at the shop I work for. It is a gantry system with to Routers that can be turned horizontally or vertically. We machine tenons in the G19 position and mill mortice's in the G17 plain. We use cutter's that have a insert blade that never is set to the proper diameter. So to get around this we use the G41 and G42 commands to offset the mortice's. The problem is that now I need to be able to offset the tenons as well. They are being machined in the G19 plain and EMC2 will not let me use Radius comp in this plain. My question is, is there a work around to this problem?

How about a different ini file with the axii defined differently for the tenons?
X becomes Z and Y becomes X and Z becomes Y or something like that (depending on the rotation of the router). You could then code the tenon cutting in G17 plane as well.

I suggested this exact solution to my Boss, but no go. He wants to be able to offset in G19
natively.

I'm sure the guys working on EMC2 would be more than happy for him to develop it. :)

EMC2 will support 5 axis machining, so maybe you need to go to the IRC channel and ask your question. You can often catch a number of the developers hanging out there.

Ya, I totally get what your saying. I suggest a way to get around his problem and that's just not good enough. Typical Boss's, they think that you can just make it work. Just because our other CNC can do it this one should to. Any way, I figured I would at least humor him by asking around.
