Newbie here.

I've retro-fitted a Sherline lathe with steppers and would like to do some threading on it. (so far turning is working out great with BobCAD v21 generating the code and Mach 3 running the interpretter).

Can someone give me advice on how to hook up an encoder - and how to do threading?

Will I need more than one pulse per revolution? etc.

I also want to retro my metal lathe with cnc and threading capability. So that anything learned on the Sherline will be directly applied to the bigger metal lathe.
