Ive had this one thrust upon me but my company as brought a Harrison Model Alpha 1460 XT lathe and the guy trained in operating has now left.

excuse my ignorance but every machine I have used (e.g mori seki, miyano) has a zero return on start up, I cannot find a zero return on the machine or in manual and as a result the machine doesn’t know where it is on start up in the morning and requires to do all offsets again and often offset are radically changed depending on where the machine was start from in the morning. We have tried use work piece coordinates but find the same problem with start up as the machine doesn’t know where it is.

And if anyone came help me with any information on the Turn Mate i conversational function on this machine, as i have no instructions would be very grateful.

Older machines used to be Zeroed by a dial gauge, usually of 1" travel, near the end of travel in each axis. We would remove the aluminium cover from the dial guage, zero the axis & replace the cover. It is usually good enough for an 0.001 tolerance on diameter.

Why not ask Harrison?
