I'm about to order some but I thought I should ask the all knowing experts first.

One of my tooling suppliers gave me one of the high helix 2 flute end mills to try out and I can't say I'm all that impressed so far...

I'll have to take some time and try different feeds and spindle speeds and see if that makes a difference.

Hi helix are great in aluminum, IMO. They don't have any stamina for anything harder, though. They have to be really sharp to do the job, and of course, you must climb mill with them. They also work good on nice to machine plastic like HDPE or UHMW.

That's another reason I'm tempted to use them. Almost everything I machine is Aluminum or a soft plastic that requires a high helix bit.

IJ, we run two totally different machines so it's not a very good comparitive study. I'll be using rpm rates of at least 10k. If you'll notice on that feed chart on the site they suggest a 9k miniumum. Does your machine run that fast?

You might want to check this page first.

I have never seen "starting point" SFPM that high before. They quote 6880 SFPM for a .25” 2 flute. That’s 105K RPM, I only have one thing to say to that. :bs:
I think you would be better off spending your hard earned money else where.

CF: Good point ! (Not even close to that speed)
I'll be interested to hear how they run for you!

Actually the chart states "SFM 450 to 1200" and "RPM at 6880 to max". :)

That sounds allot more reasonable.

They need to have a talk with there website administrator, because that table is bad for sales.

Finally got my 1/8 2FL and have been testing it in 6061 of various thickness. It's preforming quite well in my opinion. The surface finish is very good for a roughing endmill and the harmonics are cut way down. It likes to plunge and will also create a burr free edge. I'm not sure if it was worth the higher price tag, only time will tell that.
