Just for kicks, I wanted to see if the Stepper Drivers and Motors would actually be able to do resolutions higher than 8 Micro steps.
I aimed a laser pointer at the top of the z-stepper, I placed something to reflect the beam back to a wall. So the setup look like this.

I then set the stepper driver to no micro-stepping and watch the laser spot move.

I then set the driver to 8 Microsteps and here is what I saw.

I then set to 64 Micostep and here is the result.

Then on 64, I took 1 step, and used a pen to mark where the laser point was, and then moved again, I did this a few times (see pics below.)
To my surprise the Driver and Stepper can actually do an resolution of 1/64 per step!
