let me begin by giving thanks to all for this informative site. it is a great help.

i am a r/c hobbyist. i plan to build a foam cutter, bought plans and hardware from hobbycnc foam package (the 159 one).

i also plan to build a 3-axis router to carve out some boat hulls and airplane fuselages to make molds.

my question is this: is matercam 9 a complete (from start to finish) software product for my purposes? i want to design, and cut with a single software that i can do with 3-d contouring. i have read in various posts that i will need cad, cam, g-code, and cnc software from start to finish. it can be confusing and overwhelming.

if mastercam cannot fulfill this, what would you recommend? i would prefer an add on utility that works inside autocad r14 or mastercam 9.

thanks for any detailed (for dummies) answers and explanations you guys can provide.

You might want to look at DeskCNC. http://www.deskcnc.com/

For prices look here: http://www.cadcamcadcam.com

It will import your AutoCAD .dxf's or .stl's, create g-code, AND run your machine.

Hi,
I have just completed the production and test sailing of a CNC sailboat a 2 hull job. I cut from urathane foam symetric hulls 4 and then glued two together for each finished hull. Next was some fiberglass work and then all the rigging and R/C.
I cut mine out with BobCAD on a BobCAD router so I know that works. It is hard to get hull shapes as apparently they are elipses. So I kept my porject simple.
Let me know if I can help.
Bruce
