Well, I've had my 3rd machine running for about a year now and I have most of the bugs worked out, so I thought it was time that I share it with all of you. It has a cutting area of 14 x 21 x 4 and is powered by 425 oz. steppers that I bought from Xylotex. I'm reusing the 3 axis Xylotex board that I used for my first and second machine. Right now it has 1/2-10 acme threads for my lead screws with DumpsterCNC anti-backlash nuts, but I plan on upgrading to something a little faster in the future like 1/2-8 2 start. I machined all of the parts myself on a lathe and Bridgeport that I have access to at work. The base is 20 x 30 x 3.5 inches thick. I got that free from work. It was on the CNC machine along with a 1" thick sacrificial top. The top was cut up and used to make the sides as well as the main gantry beam. I used linear bearings that I bought from Ebay for the Y axis and Z axis. I cast my own parts for the X axis and the angle brackets that hold the gantry. The X axis linear bearing rides on a 3 x 1/4" piece of cold rolled steel. I also upgraded the router on this one to a Porter Cable. I wish I would have done that a long time ago :) Enjoy.

It's a bugger to move around! I got that slab of aluminum down into my basement by myself. That was a job and a half. The last time that I moved it, it was just the base on the cabinet. I did it myself using a dolly and just pushing it little by little across the floor. Now I think it's in its permanent home ;)
