zcases 05-03-2008, 01:27 PM Should the OD be left with the raw machine cut, so when you assemble and finish sand you don't have any chamfers left from deburring? What about porosity and voids in the plywood? Nice looking finished product. I will PM you..............
Actually, the picture of the speaker is a sample. I was just trying to show what Im trying to accomplish with the stand.
My speaker is this one

I dont understand the first part of the question. As far as the voids, I dont care because Im only concerned about the sides of the wood, not the surface, since they are going to be stacked on top of each other.
ger21 05-03-2008, 07:54 PM He's talking about voids in the edges, not the face. Good Baltic Birch shouldn't really have any voids in the core plys, but cheap stuff might.
lgalla 05-03-2008, 08:33 PM George,
To bad to late.I had hundreds of different circles with 3/8 center holes from cutting baffles. After a few months we have to throw them out as they clutter the shop.
Maybe next time.

Thats OK. It is too bad. Were they out of BB ply?
BTW, I do not want any voids, since the whole look is gonna be from the plies.
SPEEDRE 05-04-2008, 07:57 PM I've used BB a lot in my time as a patternmaker, wow that must wiegh a ton.
They do weigh a lot. I can barely lift and carry one.
But that is the idea!
Monte 05-06-2008, 12:07 PM Still looking for quotes? Would you be willing to supply the plywood?
43220 05-06-2008, 12:22 PM Are you planning on marketing these? Reason I ask is are you prepared to handle the liability when one topples over and injures someone?
Also, wouldn't it be easier to just veneer some PVC pipe for your stand?
stcroixsailor 05-06-2008, 04:04 PM I have a cnc router with a 4x8 table, I could nest and cut many of these disks from a sheet of BB.
Do you have an idea of how many you need?
Thanks,
Michael

it comes out to 162 out of 0.75"
Similar speakers sell for $23,000 for a pair. I really dont think PVC will do it. Plus, Im using 3 columns for each speaker, not just one.
dcorbett 05-08-2008, 12:50 PM Are you willing to go with a larger inner circle? That could decrease the weight some.
well, that hole is there to pass a threaded rod through so that I can mount it to the base of the stand.
stcroixsailor 05-10-2008, 12:45 PM I would love to make these for you. Send me the drawing file and I will shoot you a quote.

Only $23,000? Cheap!*
PVC covered with veneer and filled with cement for strength and weight.
Know a bit about speakers.
* Can't believe there's no wink in the smilies!
WTF?

Well the whole idea is to keep the theme the same, you know, laminated BB plywood, have everything look the same.
