Was wondering if anyone could tell me how many cuts or at what rate you would go though oxygen on a cnc table? Being used for Plasma Cutting! Thanks Dennis

View Full Version : oxygen gas for cutting Pure-Powder 04-25-2008, 09:19 AM Was wondering if anyone could tell me how many cuts or at what rate you would go though oxygen on a cnc table? Being used for Plasma Cutting! Thanks Dennis Lancelot001 04-25-2008, 09:54 AM I work in CNC oxygas cutting for 10 years but dont undersand your question. Pure-Powder 04-25-2008, 10:34 AM What is the rate of gas usage! How much gas will i use ! Will it break me ! Lancelot001 04-25-2008, 10:43 AM First you must tell what material you want to cut (thickness and steel quality)and what torch. Because is a link betwen torch duse and thickness of material. An aproximate guess is 7 bars Oxygen and 3 bars propane gas. for 500 mm/min. Some pictures (or links) of the machine, gas tanks, parts to be cuts are welcome. Weldtutor 04-25-2008, 11:16 AM what rate you would go though oxygen on a cnc table? Being used for Plasma Cutting! Is the plasma cutter you plan to use designed for oxygen? Most smaller ones are for compressed air only. Pure-Powder 04-25-2008, 11:29 AM HYPERTHERM G3 1000, AND 1/8 MILD STEEL Pure-Powder 04-25-2008, 11:56 AM NOT REALLY SURE ITS STILL LAYING IN THE BOX ON THE FLOOR... Lancelot001 04-25-2008, 11:57 AM Now I understand. I think you can use the same presure from air, and reduce the presure until the quality of the cut is still good. But for 3 mm steel, the air is not bad for the quality of the cut. Why change the gas? Hypertherm recomand this. Flow rate / 400 scfh; 6.7 cfm (189 l/min) at 90 psi (6.2 bar) If in my country the oxygen tanks has 6.5 cubic meters = 6500 liter then in aprox. half hour the tank is empty. Lancelot001 04-25-2008, 11:59 AM I am very shure that my calculation are wrong Gec 04-25-2008, 12:03 PM HYPERTHERM G3 1000, AND 1/8 MILD STEEL You can't use oxigen on that plasma cutter, only air or nitrogen. Weldtutor 04-25-2008, 02:25 PM Here is a link to the machine's specifications & requirements. Air, not oxygen.:( http://www.airgas.com/browse/product.aspx?Msg=RecID&recIds=26499 Pure-Powder 04-25-2008, 07:19 PM WAS WONDERING IF CUT QUALITY WOULD BE BETTER, BUT NO IF IT TAKES THAT MUCH OXYGEN.... WOULD COST A SMALL FORTUNE.... THINK I WILL JUST BUY A AIR DRYER xjdubber 04-26-2008, 12:20 AM if you feed oxygen into a powermax you can say bye to your consumables and maybe your torch. jimcolt 04-26-2008, 07:13 AM Definitely do not use oxygen in a plasma cutter that is not specifically designed for oxygen use.....I have seen the torch and leads support combustion almost all the way back to the power supply.....meaning you can have a fire that is very difficult to extinguish! Most plasma systems that are capable of cutting with oxygen are industrial oxygen plasma systems...which includes both High Definition and Conventional oxygen systems. The gas flow rates with these systems vary depending on what thickness and power levels you are using. Most industrial oxygen plasmas use a lower flow rate than small air plasmas as the torches are dual gas and liquid cooled. Dual gas means that they use oxygen as the plasma forming gas (low flow rate) and air as the shield gas (higher flow rate for cooling and additional arc constriction).....and liquid recirculating coolant to cool the electrode, nozzle and torch. Jim Colt Pure-Powder 04-26-2008, 08:27 AM Thanks Jim , I actually was watching one of Hypertherms videos , thats where they mentioned it. They never said what type of plasma you could use oxygen with , just that it would give a better cut quality... |
