I am trying to move a sheetcam job file from a laptop to a tower unit. I get a message that I have ran out of virtual memory and I am denied access to that job file ,the hourglass symbol stays on and never goes of .the virtual memory warning keeps repeating.

I am showing my ignorance here but I went into taskmaster and deleted the two highest virtual memory hogging culprits which allows the computer to at least operate in a reasonable manner but I still get the same message when trying to open a job in sheetcam.I have tried all I know [and thats not much].perhaps ther is some way of finding out how much virtual memory sheetcam needs and how to allocate it .Any help appreciated.

I am trying to get these big programs off the laptop to the tower unit. Les Newell who has been extremely helpfull said I needed to open a job on the laptop and move it to the tower unit as that would transfer the tooling info.any help appeciated regards mike hide

By it's very nature, SheetCam is a bit of a memory hog, especially if you have a job with lots of pockets open. Having said that a reasonable spec computer should not have any troubles.

How much RAM has the computer got? For Win2000 you need an absolute minimum of 256Mbytes and for XP, 512Mbytes. Any less than that and you are going to struggle. I would recommend at least 512M(win2000) or 1Gbyte(XP/Vista) for good performance.

Is your hard drive full? If the hard drive is full, Windows may not be able to create a big enough swap file. Try defragmenting the drive. This doesn't increase space but it may make it easier for Windows to allocate a big swap file. Have you got your swap file(virtual memory) set to too small? Normally Windows works out the size automatically but you can override it. I would recommend leaving it on automatic.

Another(remote) possibility is that your display driver is fouling up with SheetCam's graphics. I haven't heard of a driver causing your problem but I have quite often come across drivers that do other weird things. As a last resort, try turning your graphics acceleration right down and see if that makes any difference.

So what dothey say, don't count your chickens before they are hatched. Everything works fine in the little tool window in the mach3 window,however the machine is as dead as a dodo. At the bottom left of the window it says "too fast for pulley max" whatever that means inasmuch that I do not have any pulleys in my system...any ideas ,i am at a loss regards mike hide

Mach has the provision for multiple speed gearboxes. You can specify the maximum spindle speed you can get in each gear. The message 'Too fast for pulley max' means that the spindle speed you have specified is too fast fro the current gearbox selection. What you need to do is change the maximum speed for the current pulley selection. I can't remember off-hand where the setting is in Mach.

I have changed the spindle speed and the pulley speed too high max has gone away the bottom area is now void of anything .still no change in the situation .

I did try the jog mode and that seems to be working perfectly in the little right hand "tool" window.so everything seemto be hunky dorey as far as the mach3 window is concerned ,just that the machine is still show no sign of movement .Incidentally I did check the steppers and there is low level noise in all cases indicating they are getting power .

Mach3 is newly installed on this "new"computer, I cannot remember [old fart probably with asimers [sp] coming on] if I rebooted the system after the download as required if I recall. If I did not then is it possible that is inhibiting the machine ?
