I'm looking for a recommendation for a mini-mill sized boring head to go on my microlux Seig X2.

MT3 taper.

Basically, I want a recommendation for something that won't be too oversized for my small machine. Affordable would be nice too!

A 2 inch Boring head is a good size for the X2's.
LMS has this Head (http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1266&category=2) for $50 plus the 3MT shaft (http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1265&category=2) for $25.
The Boring bar set (http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1247&category=) is $18.

Grizzly tools has a Boring Head set (http://www.grizzly.com/products/Boring-Head-Set-MT3/H5678)a bit cheaper.

Check out the J&L tool site sale flyer: http://www.jlindustrial.com/global_images/pdf/US0802EM.pdf

Their import 2" boring bar set is $69.95 (regular price is $190) I bought one and it is a lot of value for the price. Boring head, arbor and 9 carbide tipped boring bars for $69.95! However, you may have to do some looking for an arbor in MT3 that is threaded for a draw bar. Most MT tooling has a lug end that prevents turning and is only held by the taper. This probably wouldn't work well in an X2 spindle with its' drawbar arrangement.

Check out Shars or Discount Machine tool on Ebay. Sometimes you can get a 2 inch head shank and bars for under $40. I have a 2" head for mine and agree with Hoss its about perfect in size. Any bigger and I think it may struggle some.

Not to derail the thread but I have a very related question -

I picked up some 2 9/16" 12L14 and am planning to make a boring head based off of this guy's drawings:

http://homepage3.nifty.com/homeshop-tools/boring_head/boring_head-e.htm

Mainly because my lathe uses 5/8" bars and all of the 2" heads I have seen are set up to use 1/2" bars. I would like them to use the same ones.

My question is - I planned on turning this as a single unit (not a head and shaft) and making the shaft portion 1/2" to fit in a 1/2" collet. I have also seen other boring heads like Centurion that have 1/2" shafts - will this work alright in the X2 or is it better to have the head and either the MT or R8 adapter?

ok, I ended up getting an import 2" head, R8 spindle and separate MT3 spindle along with some 1/2" boring bars (my lathe uses 3/8 boring bars o I needed a new set for the head).

Got it at Busy Bee in Canada as it was on sale for $58 (head & R8). MT3 spindle was $13 and the boring bars were another $25. All in all not a bad deal considering the shipping alone from LMS was going to be $26!
