Can the VQC be changed so that when you are measuring tool offsets you can enter the actual offset number instead of the tool number? It makes more sense to set the actual offset you want instead of being limited to setting the offset to one of 30 tools then copying it to the one you want.
Thanks.

Are you talking about using the probing? What year is the machine? Is it the Renishaw probing? And you have the TS27 presetter for tool lengths?
If so, check these threads and see if it helps any. We've discussed this stuff to death but if you have any questions, fire away:

Good Moring Donkey. I didn't realize that I had not said this post was in regards to the VQC and the work probe and tool probe. I have both. The probes work fine with the VQC as they are intended. But for example:
If I have an end mill designated as T30 but want the offsets for that tool to be H60 and D60. The way the VQC is set-up is that I have to measure the tool into offsets 30 then manually copy them into the offset 60 slot.
I'd like to changed the VCQ so that I can enter the actual offset number I want top set instead of the tool number. If I try entering 60 for the tool number I get an error.
Thanks

Ahhh...I gotcha'. You're one of those 'H&T don't match guys' :D.
Somebody else will have to help you. I'm a noob with this stuff. I still don't understand why people would want to use different offset numbers.
If you look at the VQC templates, I'm sure it's just a matter of reverse engineering what's already been laid out. Copy the code, add new fields where you want it to prompt for the offset number, then change the code where the program plugs in the Macro variables.
Good luck with it.

If you have 100 tools but only 30 pockets to put them in, why would I keep changing the offset value all the time when there are 200 offsets to use?

I wish I had 200 tools so I'd have that problem. :)
I may change my mind when I do finally have that problem but for now, I just use the presetter. I keep a general selection of tools in the carousel so I don't have to reload all of the offsets every time I want to make a part.
