Hi everybody. I'm new to the site, sort of. I registered a while ago and completely forgot about it. I have a MaxNC Maxpath 42 desktop router, and the controller circuit blew. They are not real impressive in terms of being able to tell me why this happens to their machines (apparently its happened before). I am not real interested in spending 500 on a new controller board that will blow up next month.

Can anybody suggest any 3rd party boards that are in that price range that will be an easy retrofit for me? I know, probably not enough info here, but if maybe we can have a dialogue. I'm a novice, so I'm not sure what else to put down.

Thanks in advance! ~RB

Hi Redbeard....

I have had very good luck with my scratch built controller featuring Gecko stepper controllers. I am currently retrograding my milling machine to Gecko servo controllers (G320's).

I have also been using a Xylotex controller on a small metal lathe (Sherline)... but I have blown the controller on it once too - but Xylotex fixed it for like $50 or so. (at least its cheaper than $500) Not sure if it would work with your set up though.

Good luck.

Thanks Joe. I have sent the board back already... But not heard anything as yet. Without anyone to walk me through the steps of retrograding, it struck me as a risk to switch up the entire control circuit and the software interface. But thanks for the reply!

Hi Redbeard,

Most of the CNC companies that are out there - will stand behind their product. If not - post the information here - so that the rest of the cnc community can stay away from them.

Best of luck and hope that you don't blow that board again,

Joe
