I was reading the post about manual machines with ball screws to eliminate backlash and was slapped by a weird idea. Has anyone tried using Moglice or a similar product on a worn acme nut? I know this is probably crazy and won't work but, imagine if it did! I am sure it would be tricky to apply. maybe it could be forced through a small hole and allowed to dry before (attempting) moving the screw. This would probably work better (if it worked at all) if the threads were large.
I may start a poll to see how many people think I am the one whose screws are loose.

Sure, there is more than one fella who has cast a new nut from Moglice for their lathe.

This would be similar to the way Babbit Bearings were made, so it's not crazy. I think the half nuts on the Gingery lathe are also made by casting them on the screw. That said, given the time to set up the mold and the cost of Moglice, replacing the nut might be both faster and cheaper?
