Hi everyone!
I'm Mikael from sweden. Came across this site for about 8 months ago. Didn't really thinking on bulding a cnc router for real but sens then i have a thought that it could be cool to have one and useful of course.

And know, yes you guessed right i'm start building one. Have read many of the threads around her and taken ideas from others project and design my on router. But the design of it isn't finished have much of the drawings in my head but i attach som pics so you can se the progress so far. The cutting area should be around 120cm x 150cm around 47" x 59". Most of it going to be MDF but the gantry beam going to be alu. The sides are bolted to the table frame so its possible to take it apart. But if it's not working good when i fire up the machine i plan to change it to solve possible problems.

More info is comming :rainfro:

Ps: sorry for my bad english.

This is what i have done the last week.

Nice work. I am always impressed with anyone who has the patience to build a torsion box and have it come out right. :)

Just curious - are you closer to the Malmo area, or further north ?

Some more information.

Drive systems go to be hobbycnc 4 axis packages. 2 motors on the x axis with belt drive. On the Y and Z axis i plan to use leadscrews.

First i thought to use skate bearings and pipes but after some considiration i stuck with V-bearings instead for it simplicity.

Today im only had time to glue the table bed on the frame. Hope i can make more progress tomorrow!

Update.

Have glued on a pice of MDF on each of the long sides where the steel plate for the X-axis V-bearings gonna sit on. And have also make the gantry sides today. Hopefully get the aluminium beam for y-axis on monday. know you can start to se how it's gonna look like :)

As soon i get the machine running i gonna cut out new pices for the gantry that's more precise than my handcut pices know.

Thank you very much!

V-bearings on all axis from www.superiorbearing.com (http://www.superiorbearing.com) hopefully get them next week.
I plan to use these screws for Y and Z axis http://shop.hpceurope.com/an/accueil.asp?nav=2&lie=1&prod=1243 and this nut http://shop.hpceurope.com/an/accueil.asp?nav=2&lie=1&prod=1268

A little update. Haven't done much on the machine besides routing of edges and some other smaller things.

But today i collect my aluminium gantry, and of course some pics. Know you really can se how its gonna look like. Just the rest of the machine left ;)

Know learned how to attach pics to :)

Have assemble the gantry today. Much stiffer than i thought it would be.

Have also decided which paint i'm gonna go for, Dark grey, for the industrial look ;)

This is how the machine looks now!

And now i really need help. I planed to buy acme rods from mcmaster but they didn't ship to sweden :(

My question is where can i buy acme rods 6' 1/2-8? (2 or more starts)
Can't find any company near me that sell for a price that i can afford.

Why work with american measurements when you live in sweden :)

I do not know of any place in sweden that sells Acme 2-start, but take a look at wibergers trapetzodial rods, they are quite cheap, and a bit closer to where you live :D

Why work with american measurements when you live in sweden :)

I know it looks weird but i plan to buy steppers from hobbycnc they have 1/4" shafts. So it was just simplier when it fits togehter because i plan to buy all the things, leadscrew, nuts, bearings, couplings and some other stuff. And it's cheap :)

Problem with wibergers rods is that it's just 1m i need minimum 1,55m and they also don't have flanged nuts.

I've been buying stuff from MW in Germany many times, very good service and prices. If I don't remember wrong they can make the ends for you, just give 'em the measurements.
I think their trapetz has a lot better tolerances than Viberger.

They will actually supply up to 3 meter lengths, price is per meter but that is not obvious...

Hi!
I'm back again!!

Thanks for the links guys. I will be order trapetz screws and some other nice stuff from the german company!

Haven't worked on the machine for a long time now, have been sick and much other stuff to do. But know some progress!

I have fitted the steel for the x axis, with some serios amount of bolts ;) next on the to do list are two angle steel to be fitted for the y axis.

Have bought v-bearings from superior-bearings for all axis and it's working great! It's so easy to mount and it's gets rock solid! have no flex side ways now and i haven't even attach it properly.

And of course som pics to look at :D

Have been busy today:)
A short day in school left me more than a half day building time, thats really nice!

Have mounted the steel ralis for the y axis today.
i accidently dropt the steel rail in to the cut out in the aluminium beam and with my suprice, it fits like a dream down their. I just put 5 screws in it and fits perfect, and it was easy too :D

Have also started on the z axis carriage. Have no plans really how it should look so just playing around with a few ideas and hopefully end up with some nice rig.

Thats it for today!

It's been a while know. Haven't had time for it much work and other things. Have both the Y and Z axis almost done, have tested it and its working great! Know im a little stuck without some pulleys, but they are shipped and hopefully here soon :)

when i get the machine up and running im gone change all the MDF parts. Plan to cut out everything with the machine and get it more precise. Only the table it self should remain. And with that a hole lot of design changes i think, some parts is'nt that simply i would like to take apart.

And here some more pics how it looks know days.

IT'S ALIVE!!!:rainfro:

And here some pics of a test cut the machine just finished.

After the first cut i changed the pass over to 7% and get a much smoother finish! enjoy!
