Hi Guys,

For those of you that have converted their mill to CNC and have used a 5/8" ball screw what size angular contact bearings did you use? I was thinking of use VXB P/N 7201B 12x32x10. Can I use a 15x35x11 size bearing or will I have to cut down the ball screw too much (smaller diameter that 15mm). For the support end, do I just use a sealed standard bearing?

Thanks,
skipper

I interested in what others have used also.

I'm about a week or 2 away from turning my ball screws. I bought 10x30x9 vbx 7200b.

I hope they work OK,
Jack

That is the exact size I use on my cnc conversion. Work perfectly. You can get shims from McMaster-Carr for preloading and a locknut too, 6343K11 (locknut).

Thanks for the link and the part number, I guess you single point threaded it on the lathe. Nicely done!

I was thinking about a 3/8th size thread with a nylon insert. Just because I've already removed my lead screw and was going to use a thread die. That lock nut looks so good I may just have to re-assemble my lathe and single point thread it.

Cheers,
Jack
Edit: Found a .391-32 thread die. It must be made of gold... Mcmaster, carbon steel #2619a71 is $47 or High speed steel #2619a31 is $70.

Woah!!! gold plated carbon steel/HSS haha, well it will never rust...

yeah it's single point threaded, after the case hardening, I was able to use a HSS threading tool I got off Grizzly.
