Hi All,

I just installed Mach1 and will be giving it a try, however, I have a question on the motor tunning. My motors are 1.8 degree step angle which means 200 steps per rev right? my control board is set to microstep at 1/8 step so that means that I have 1600 steps per rev, right? which then means that since my TPI is 4, I need to go 6400 steps per inch, right so far?

The tuning box in Mach1 asks for steps per unit, I am using inches as my units so.. am I correct in putting 6400 in this box or should I put the 1600 per rev number in there.. or should I use the 200 steps per rev relative to the motor's step angle?

Appreciate any help I can get...

Thanks,

Marcos (elalto)

6400 shoul do it, once you have it set up, just command the machine to move 1 inch, and then you can measure it to make sure. Hope this helps. :)

I'll just add that the thing I missed for a bit was the Velocity (Vel) you set up is (for your case) in INCHES per SECOND!
So don't be too concerned if you wind up with seemingly small numbers in Vel that and Accel settings.

Thanks Guys,

I did not realize that the vel & accel numbers were in inches per second, no wonder my motors were humming! 2000 inches per second is way too fast for what I have in mind, for sure.

Can I set the vel & accel rates real close to each other? I need to go very short distances but would like to get there as fast as possible so a slow accel speed would limit over-all elapsed time per move. My longest distance is about 2.5 inches and many moves are .250 or less.

Thanks again,

Marcos
