Hello there,

I'm making my 1st part on a CNC machine I haven't even built yet. Chicken and egg situation: I need to make a part for my CNC so I can build it. To top that, I have no clue how to mill either...

I'm trying to make a mount for my Precise spindle. I have a couple pieces of Fortal aluminum 0.895" thick and a 2D CAD file converted to G-code. I'm going to temporarily hold the spindle to the Z axis with gum and tape while I cut... kidding.

The question is: what tool do I use to cut this part? End mill? Do the number of flutes matter for this? I can cut all but one section with a 0.250" tool. Feedrate will be very slow since the unfinished mill doesn't have a frame. Long shot aint it?

Here's a picture... (http://www.roque.net/site/jar.nsf/SpindleMount.JPG?OpenFileResource) no, it's not a toilet.

Thanks,
Julio

Thanks for looking into this.

I also forgot to ask the RPM recommended for Fotal. My spindle has 3 speeds: fast, really fast and too fast. Not sure if rotational speed makes that much of a difference but I'll wait for your word.
