I was so excited to get my vf2 tomorrow and found out today that because of the rain we are having here (in socal) my machine will have to be delivered on tuesday (it is a tricky installation). What a long weekend it is going to be:(

Rain?? In Southern California? I thought it didn't rain there. :D

Supposedly my SuperMini arrives on Feb 5, snow, rain or shine I hope. It at least is easy to install just using a pallet jack; VF2s are a bit bigger challenge.

They have to lay down about 150 feet of steel plate 50 of those feet are across grass then take off the z motor and some sheet metal and lay down that plastic housing that covers the wiring at the top. I am really disappointed but understand due to the installation. I am sure if it was straight forward it would be no problem. Rain in California, not usually but because my mill was to be delivered there is rain. Oh well, thats life I guess.

Wow! Mike will do anything for a sale, won't he? :D

They have deals with the riggers. I really hope you never have to move that machine again.

If I had known I could have told you how to make a 'Transport Module'.

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20113

You would only need another half dozen wheels. :D

fourperf

wow, I thought mine was tough.

Mike did help a lot on the rigging. They charged $750 for all that. I have had other riggers charge $1100 to move in some other machines.

$750 to $1100 seems pretty reasonable to me; I have paid this to have a machine offloaded in the parking lot and then just moved on skates a total distance of about 50 feet on concret to the final position.

fourperf

I thought the 750 was a great price. Now all I need is the machine.

Mark

I really like your transport module but would never have the balls to try something like that

Desperation?:) Somewhere I have the photographs of the testing; we put planks on top and drove my son-in-law's 5500lb off-road 4 x 4 onto it and towed it around.

I also moved a TL2 into the same location but I did that in the summer when it was dry enough to drive my pickup and a big double axle trailer across the backyard.

Now a VF2 is a different can of worms; I don't think I am crazy enough to try something like that with 9000lbs of machine.

Hi:

One not so obvious benefit of paying a rigger......they drop it they are insured, you drop it.......

Hey Geof, how did you manage to get it off the dolly?

Mark

The dolly was bolted together in sections; two side rails and three cross members. The machine was just lifted up and small blocks put under the jacking screws, the dolly assembled around it with slotted tabs at each jacking screw location and washers and nuts put on the top end of the jacking screw. Then the dolly was jacked up to take the blocks away from the machine. In my barn workshop the reverse was done.

I still have the dolly and have used it for transporting 650lb concrete bloscks out into the backyard for building a retaining wall so it has returned the time I spent making it.

Glad to hear it, Mark. I too crossed a huge boundary today: I made my first 3D contoured part in my VF-2. It's also my first semi-complex part out of Mastercam X. It's been a week of big leaps for me (finally).

These milestones in my journey reminded me that you too came aboard today.

And I'll even spare you the story about the coolant nozzle going belly-up about an hour ago (I fixed it).

12 hours? Was that for you or did that include the installation guys? Wow!

that was just the installation boys with the riggers. 7:30 to 7:15 ish. They ran the spindle break in program which only ran for 35 mins?? I tried to get a flash drive in the usb port to import a program but it said no usb found. Maybe I need a new thumb drive. I was reading the operators manual and it says no mineral cutting oils to be used. The blaser rep told me to go with universal 2000 which is mineral oil based (it is still water soluble) I wonder if they mean straight mineral oil. I wonder if thats ok? There is a lot to sort out I think before I can make chips. They had to disassemble the head cover and a bunch of other stuff to get it in my shop and when they were putting it back together the head cover chip guards got damaged so they will have to come back tomorrow to remedy that. I hope to be up and running soon.

That sounds a bit short; two hours is the standard Run In program, that is program O02021. You should run the Warm Up program every time you use the machine and I would check the spindle temperature the first time or two, you may need to do the Run In again.

Regarding the coolant I think any water soluble one is okay, it is straight oil cutting fluids that react with the wipers on the weay covers I think.

Incidentally you ordered this machine a few days before I ordered my SuperMini I think; mine is supposed to arrive at the dealer's location on Friday and I will being picking it up on Monday.

I cannot wait to start making some chips. The program that ran was O02021 but it did only run for about 30 mins or so. I will have to call them tomorrow.

Thanks Geof. Hopefully your machine will arrive on time also.

It should run for two hours; here are the comments from the top of program O02021:

O02021 (Spindle Run-in)
(This Program must be run prior to)
(machine use at time of machine)
(installation. Cycle time: 2 hours.)
(This program can be used for all)
(spindle types. )

You will have received a USB drive with the machine. It has all the files for Parameters, Settings, the Warm Up and Run In, Quick Code, etc. It also has a Readme file that tells you some stuff.

You can check the Run In program on this drive and compare it with the one in the machine.

hey guys, how long does your machine sit without use for you to need to run the breaking procedure for (the 2 hr one)? The warmup one needs to be run every day does it not?

thanks

I am trying to get out of fadal mode and into haas mode.

Somewhere in the Manual there is some mention of this. I think if the temperature is high enough you do not have to do the Warm Up every day. When you fire the machine up after a night that was too cold the first time you push Cycle Start you will get a message on the screen. But my experience is that it is best to run it every day and if the machine has not been used during the day run it again just before quitting time. I was omitting this on one machine with a 15,000rpm spindle and eventually got some serious overheating due to oil accummulation.

For the Run In I think the time is something like two weeks, and I think it is a case of if you go past two weeks just leave it if it is going to be idle longer than that. But always monitor the spindle temperature during the first Run In after a long shut down; I found my Super Mini getting hot on time so I stopped and restarted the Run In a couple of times part way through.

Just outside Vancouver; 2-1/2 days travel time from the Haas factory for sensible people, 27 hours for a maniac. :)

I notice you are Studio City; I will be down near there mid March, actually just by LAX attending a conference/exhibition.
