Hi all

I am fairly new here, have been lurking for a couple of months. Great bunch of folks with a lot of knowledge.

I acquired a mill which I believe to be an Emco, but I am not sure. Anyone that can help identify this machine and where I can find some infomation about it? That would be very helpful to say the least. I bought it for a small price as part of an estate sale. So all I got is what you see. HELP. I hope the attached picture makes it through.

Nice machine perfect for CNC.

I think it will be a good machine. Just wish I knew more about it. I do mostly custom musical instrument modifications, so small machine are very handy to have.

Looks like an Emco.
They are good machines.....

Edit #1: I think Emco machines are either Swiss or German manufactured, they are very accurate. :D :D

Edit #2: It could be a Maximat 10 (?)

Ok with a little help from you guys I have learned this is an Emco FB-2 Machine. Made through the late 1980's. Mine has a date of 1988 on the motor. There is a fellow selling one back in April on ebay with all attachments, which I do not have, for $12,000.00. The one he shows has a power cross feed and many accesories, original vise, fly cutter, collets etc... So I guess I did OK fro $400.00!

This list all the specs and has many good pictures. This is his own website and describes the machines he owns and operates and is not a commercial site. At least now I know what I have so I can persue parts, manual etc. Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it.

Emco is Austrian! This machine could be one of the older machines? It also could be a Prazi nock-off.

I have a sparepartslist for FB2, drawing + list with original factory numbers but all item descriptions in Swedish. If I have time I will try to scan the pages. Be aware of the switch on the gearbox !!!!!!!!!!!!!! See to it that the spindle is NOT moving when changin speed !!!! See to it that it LOCKS properly !!!! USE PROPER OIL IN GEARBOX !!!

Me too. I have the head and column. It came as a milling attachement with my Emco Maximat V10. It's a sturdy unit, and despite the round column you can raise and lower it without loosing the position. Just as long as the gib for the guide rail is correctly adjusted. (Adjustment on the left rear side of the vertical slide.) And I also have instruction manual for lathe with mill unit (english), illustrated parts list (german/english/French) and brochure for it (german).

This is the old version with 4 speeds. It came both in 3-phase and 1-phase versions. And mine is a 1-phase which I found is actually a 3-phase + capacitor. So I threw out the capacitor and run it from a VFD. So now it has any speed from around 50 to >2000 RPM. Later units were green and had 6 speeds. The spindle bearings are surprizingly not very tight, so it tends to destroy the edges of carbide cutters. Stay with HSS, it's not fast enough for carbides anyway. I say surprizingly because the lathe is a precision instrument better than most in this size.

It was made by Emco Maier of Austria before he turned to woodworking machines.
As far as I know you can still get spares for it.

This is my first time I have sent a message to this forum. It is very interesting
to read what other guys send.
I have just bought a lathe EMCO Maximat Super 11, with a 35mm spindle Hole. I managed to get an Instruction & Parts Book and I am stripping it down cos it needs some minor repairs and a lot of cleaning.
Could someone give me the specs of the oil in the gearboxes and also for the grease. Also a sorse from where in the UK from where I could get parts and attachments for it?
I only have the Lathe without coloum or milling head.

The Prazi came after any of the Emco machines & is almost a copy of the Emco
making the Prazi the nock-off machine the machine in the photo is a FB2 & are a great little mill The head & column is also an attachment for the larger lathes these cost new
around $2,800 with the power feed on the Xaxes

You might want to join the Emco group at Yahoo. Lots of good info in the files section with pdf's of various versions of the manual. Also lots of discussion on which oil to use (like on most groups). Here's a link:
