Hi
We are servicing a relatively new Mori CL150 with live tooling-Mitsubishi servos.
Problem is in the the live tool spindle motor - it heats up and has no holding power -spindle can be hand turned almost freely under command and power- maybe ecxitation is bad . The driver is MDS-B-V1-45. The previous service company peeled off and " lost " the lable . they also played with the encoder . we cant tell the motor model and no mention in the partlist . Any ideas? can anyone id the motor?

Dovi,
You should be able to call Mori parts and easily find this out. As long as you have the serial # for the machine, shouldn't be an issue. Also, you could possibly call a Mori distributor for assistance to the actual problem with the motor.

Have you tried calling Mitsubishi?

If they played with the encoder, it is quite possible the commutation is off, if it is servo type motor, if AC spindle, then the PG pulse generator on the back of the motor may be the issues if it has one and this is what they messed with, Though IIRC that number is a servo drive, you will need to get the motor part number to find out what encoder is on it.

On the Mitsubishi controls there is a diagnostic screen that will show you the model numbers of all the connected motors and drives, encoders too, I think. I would check to see if this information can be found on your control.
