I recently purchased a Tree Mill and I need help identifying it. I believe it is a Journeyman 200, as it is equipped with a Quick Change 200 spindle. I cannot find any other identifying tags or marks on it. Maybe you can tell me where to look? It is equipped with an antique CNC control that utilized magnetic tapes. I am looking to convert it to a more modern control (Mach 3 w/ Gecko drives) but I also need more information on the servo motors. There are no tags anywhere!!! I am mostly using it to experiment with CNC, no real production. Do you think the Mach 3 w/ Gecko drives will work ok or should I be looking at something else? Please help out a total newbie!!!
Thanks,

Tree 200 Tradesman, serial number is on the very front of the Y axis plate, most likley a 1978 or 1979..Controller is junko, Iron is excellent if it has been cared for, Following are pics of my Tradesman 200 conversion to full 4 axis. I did rebuild the X and Y axis ball screws with oversize ball nuts, have less than .0001 back lash. The Z design is mine, has a ball screw and AC bearings, backlash is .0007-.0008.
Due to a bad accident, I had to motorize the knee, ( if you have moved the knee up and down much, you know how heavy it is)used an old DRO on the knee for good tolerance and repeatibility..But the Z is the one under computor control.
The control box is my design. but has all functions: Power, Auxillary, Servos on/off, knee up and down, emergency kill , spindle on/off /reverse and speed control.I installed the monitor so that it is a part of the control box, which has a double swing so it can be used in a lot of positions..
The most fun was removing all the old eletronics (there are a buch of them too) and starting from scratch. If you decide to build that tree, just E mail..I can send you more pics to give you ideas.
