I am in desperate need of assistance with my WinCNC problem. I have a Shop Sabre that works fine but I am having trouble with my Z axis set-up when it comes to use with the ATC.

I have contacted Shop Sabre who said it was a WinCNC prob and they referred me to a tech guy. The Tech Guy wants $100hr, $400 month,$1000 yr. WinCNC won't even answer a detailed e-mail. They don't even have the consideration to tell me in the e-mail that they want $$$. This is really irritating!

Here is the scenario:
My machine performs the tool change fine. The only prob. is that when setting relative tool height something goes awry. It either goes too deep or too shallow after set-up. It previously worked fine. I can only assume that I made a mistake and changed a simple setting having to do with M37/G43/G49. The manual is so confusing I can't decipher what the set-up procedure should be. It seems like there is a preset of .708in the tool raises in addition to my set-up height. Why??? Why when I enter L110 T1... does the Z axis # change on the screen?

Do I need to consider another controller rather than paying huge support fees?

Your input is much appreciated.

How old is the machine?

IMO the manufacturer should be able to offer assistance to you on this. If they use the product on their machines they should be able to troubleshoot it and in the least they should want to be involved with the diagnosis so in the future they can have it in their knowledge base.

Thanks for your thoughts Denny. The machine is 3 years old and the manufacturer is the one who forwarded me to the WinCNC people. Also, I believe Shop Sabre has gone away from using WinCNC and gone to Mach. This is why I am struggling for assistance

Ok

I was under the impression they were still with wincnc.

Hope you find the answer.

Is it possible to reinstall the software, restore to an earlier point or restore a default setting that would take you back to a time before you accidentally changed what you changed?

There is nothing in the manual other than adjusting your initialization process. I'm sure that the answer is simple, I just don't know the procedure. I suspect I set a default offset for the Z and it needs to be zeroed out again.

Thanks for your thoughts.

are you setting the tool heigth with the touch top Macro button in wincnc?

I have tried setting it both ways, although I am not really familiar with how to use the Macro button with multiple tools. I usually use L110 T#, when this is done the Z height actually changes from what the screen had said it was. This is why I believe that I accidentally entered a command line that creates an automatic offset in tool height. Something like M37?
