My Beaver mill with Heidenhain 155 control is playing up again
this time when I switch on the mains and go for the home proceedure
the ACK light starts flashing meaning a fault. this has steadily got worse
from running for 15 minutes to this stage.
also the monitor screen is starting to distort after a company having 2 attempts
at repairing the PSU ( have to contact Gridley51 about the monitor repair)
any ideas ?

the machine has now started to work until it reaches the next "tool def" in any program where it stops until I type in "goto line (tool change line)" press start and on it goes until it reaches the next "tool def" in the program. the program is correct as it worked before the problem began

Hi Brian.
I was on your doorstep the other morning at Day International.I was short on time but would have came round if you`d called me.The ack`s coming on because the control sees a machine fault, not serious enough for an e-stop but obviously a fault.I`m not sure of all the things that can cause this but I would check the air pressure and switch and lube.I`m sure the machine plc,not the control plc looks at lube only in auto cycle and only every forty minutes or so.Mike`s the guy to ask.He knows every detail about these machines.
Sorry about your monitor but it`s a hard fact of life that in the UK most of the cnc "expert repairers" know less about the subject than my wife.I understand that as a Dundonian you`re very careful with the pennies but I would recommend you get your wife to undo the stitching on your pockets to let you reach in far enough to withdraw enough cash to get your monitor checked at a decent place.Of course if I was a decent bloke I would tell you where I take mine, but as you said yourself in an earlier post I`m not so....:-)

Mark,
thank you for your advise. I did work as a professional musician with a couple of lads from Fife this may have been where I picked up this habit of having my pockets very tightly stitched.how many hours off are you giving the workers this Xmas.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year
hope things have picked up a bit
cheers
Brian

Brian,advice is spelt with a C :-)
My workers finish on Friday for two full weeks with pay.I suppose yours will be off until you get some machines working.
Did the musical thing not work out either? :-)
Yes,things have picked up again.I had quoted a guy about forty different bits at the rate of twenty five twice a year,he turned up yesterday(first time I`d met him) with a bit of 10mm plate to get folded into a tray as a free sample.Thought that his business was so important I was going to spend two hours of my time and chop up two bits of press brake tooling for free without even the whiff of an order. He couldn`t understand why his word was not enough.Don`t suppose I`ll see an order from him now and I don`t really care.If I had £5 for all the dreamers I`ve met over the last thirty years that think they can get cheap stuff today by telling you that big orders are coming tomorrow I`d be able to retire again.
Seriously this is always a funny time of year but this has been the quietest last quarter ever but, there a lot going on and I think things will start jumping again in the new year.I`ve just put in another big Churchill chucker which I`m hoping to keep busy with work from a new customer.
