Hello! I have problem transferring programs containing lower case (small) letters to OSP7000L and OSP-U100L, when using serial transfer. If there is a lower case letter in the program, I get an error message like: 5226 error illegal tape code e8. There is no problem to transfer the same programs with floppy disc. Does anyone know if there is a parameter or setting we can set to avoid the error? Unfortunately I don’t have parameter manuals for the machines.

Your RS-232 is probably set for ASCII or ISO code. As far as I know lower case letters are EIA codes, not supported by ASCII or ISO. I'd recommend you program in all upper case.

I don’t understand.. Lower case letters appear in the ASCII table with dec codes between 97 and 122. So it should be possible to transfer? We want to use lower case letters in comments in the program because it defines that a tolerances value is negative.

Let me rephrase it. ISO. Attached is the codes table from the U100-L programming manual. Note no lower case letters to be found. But I could be wrong...

AN AWFUL LOT OF cnc CONTROLLERS HATE lowercase.
Refer to the standard. Some machines won't even let you use comments!

Our E100M controller allows "lowercase" but NONE of the other OSP controls (5000L-G, 5020L-G, 7000L-G, 5020M...) will have a bar of lowercase!
You are flat out of luck on this one.
Sorry!
Brian.

Thank you for response. But I still find it strange that it is not possible. Because if we first transfer a program with lowercase characters with floppy disc to the Okuma, and then send the program out using the serial port, it is still correct with small characters.

i contacted our local service tech on this exact issue. osp700L and ospu10L. they gave me a parameter to change and VIOLA! worked. can't remember what or where the parameter was...been some years since we resolved...
