I have been working in 3D on the computer for years and have just started to try and bring 3D models into the real world through CNC. From a practical point of view if I want to glue a round mdf peg into a round mdf hole do I make the peg and the hole exactly the same size or do I allow a mm or two for the glue?

Hello ksealey, I too have been doing 3D modeling for many years and I do woodworking as well. I can tell you from experience that you will need to leave a small amount of room for 'squeeze-out'. Otherwise the glue in the hole will have no way to escape past the peg and bond the two pieces together, and you will have a very difficult time getting the peg into the hole.

I don't know if I would leave more than one millimeter of clearance, especially if you are doing something that has to be precise. I would do a test run if that is the case just to see. Hope this helps.

A small V down the side of the peg will allow the glue to excape.
