HI, I have an Okuma L470M with an OSP-P100L. I am haveing problems with my offsets, my tool is being told to move to x8 and is moving to x7.5, i am using a .25 round tool for face grooving. also, my z is moving .125 in to the face to far and is crashing, i have a p # of 3 to cut the top side of the groove and 2 to cut the bottom side. my problem is that i cant figure out why my tool is not going to my designated x and z move. (nuts)

If you have a button(round) tool, the point shouldn't be set at a 3 or a 2. On the o.d. cutting, it should be 8 and on the face it should be 7.

Im cutting a face groove, how would i switch p #s going from the od and turning a .125 radius to the face and cutting an id and turning a .25 radius to the face. with a .25" button tool

You are making a face groove that has a 1/8" radius, and turning a 1/4" radius on the o.d.?

This is the groove and tool we are using, there is a 1/4" radius in the top and an 1/8 in the bottom

Why not post the section of your program that's giving you trouble?

As far as I know, the P number is determined by where you touch off the tool. If you touch off on the OD and face, use P3. If you touch off an ID and face, use P2. The P tells the control where the center of the TNR is from the point you have touched off... you don't switch P's for the same tool. Use G41/G42 to tell the control which side of the programmed path to offset to.

Ok, I think I get it. Since you are cutting an i.d., you should have it set as dcoupar stated.

ok i am using two offsets for each side of the tool can i use a p7 and comp to either side with a g41 and g42

Looking at the picture, it looks like you would only need one or the other, not both

ok its moving to the right x value but i am still off .125 in z, so it is going to crash into the part, i have tried to change p#s and remove offsets. right now, i am using a p of zero and a z offset of zero, here are some screen shots of where i was

The way I am looking at it, it would use 0 for z, then you would have to use +.125 in one offset, and -.125 in the other.

I have went to using a p# of zero, this seems to work, for some reason using a p# of 7 with no z offset was still moving my z into the part, thanks for the help

AS YOU SAID "i have a p # of 3 to cut the top side of the groove and 2 to cut the bottom side. ". I THINK TOP SIDE SHOULD BE 2 AND BOTTOM SIDE IS 3. THAT MEANT OTHER WAT AROUND.THAT COULD BE THE REASON THE TOOL PATH DIDN'T RUN RIGHT.
JUST THINK THE TOP SIDE OF THE INSERT ACTS AS THE ID CUT (P#2) AND THE BOTTOM ONE ACTS AS THE OD CUT (P#3). I THIS MIGHT HELP.
