hello
I am new to CNC diy, and just have a few questions...
I am using 3 X MSD542 from Motion Control Products Ltd, driving 3 X FL60STH86STH motors. I'd like some thoughts on wiring in series or in parallel, does anyone favour one over the other and if so why.. I am hoping for a machine which has a bias for accuracy over speed, ( but it would be nice if it doesn't go too slow! ).
any useful wiring tips etc would also be great..
many thanks for any help everyone..
MT

Hi,

If you envisage running your motors at less than 500 RPM wire them series; over 500 RPM wire them parallel.

Wiring series will give you more torque at lower speeds were parallel will give more torque at higher speeds.

I think you will be able to download a torque curve chart for your steppers from their website which should show the differences in wiring methods.
