I might be able to help. I need some more information.

Are you using a conventional die, punch and blankholder?

What kind of material are you trying to form?

What shape is the blank(square/circle)?

What size is the blank?

What is the material clearance in the die?

What is the size of radius on the draw die?

Are there wrinkles in the failed parts?

What is the surface finish on the blankholder and die?

What type of lubrication are you using?

What type of press are you using(single/double action)(hydraulic/mechanical)?

Are you attempting this form with multiple draws or just one?

How close to the bottom of the draw can you get? Does the punch go thru at first contact of the blank or does the bottom rip out half way down or near bottom?

If you can post a picture of the failed part I may be able to see some problems.

Looking at the second photo of the failed part it looks like your blankholder pressure is to low.

On the first photo when the part failed at a shallower depth was the flange starting to get wavy?

Fsa,

can you post some clear pictures of the dies/formers you have made. You mention you have made some others sets up previously. I'm a what we call a press toolmaker here in England.

I have some ideas i can put your way but some pics of what you have already tried in the way of formers would be a help so i don't already cover what you have tried. Basically for starters its 316 stainless steel which is very resistant to bending and about any ones worst night mare to work with. The problem is the stainless blank is too resistant to the pressure being applied to form it,(dependant on the form entry) hence its piercing a hole rather than drawing the material into the female form. So you need methods to lessen that force, which is resolvable. Post some pics of the forms you have already tried and i will try to point you in the right direction.
