Hello all,
I am about to purchase the CNCfusion deluxe CNC kit for my X3. This being my first CNC conversion and whatnot I have a couple questions.
First the kit referes to the stepper mounts being for NEMA23 and NEMA34 steppers. Where would I purchase those? Also, what controller would you recommend for said steppers and where would you recommend I purchase the controller?
I have been machining for several years now and this will be my "head first dive" into the CNC world. Any help you guys could provide would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Jake,
I've retro'd 2 X2 mini mills now, and used some of the cnc fusion stuff on both.
Motors and power supplies:
http://www.kelinginc.net/SMotorstock.html
425oz-in is (in my experience) enough for the X2.
Motor drivers:
http://www.geckodrive.com/
Pick one in the 2xx series. I have 6 x 201's in service right now and have never had a problem with them.
Hope this helps,
Paul

I'm in the process of gathering everything to do a CNC Fusion deluxe kit conversion to my SX3.
I got my steppers and power supply from Keling (www.kelinginc.net). I went with a 400 oz-in motor for the Z and 282 oz-in motors for the X and Y. I'm hoping these will be stong enough since the deluxe ballscrews should require less torque, but I may find that they are underpowered once I get it all together. It'd probably be wise to get a gas strut for the head, or rig up some sort of counterweight to help the Z motor to lift the head. This would also help to prevent the head from crashing into the table if the drive belt snaps.
I'm using G203V drivers from Geckodrive (www.geckodrive.com).
I opted to use a breakout board to simplify wiring the controller up. I went with the C11G from CNC4PC (www.cnc4pc.com).

Hello,
Have an early large table X3, 2005, Used CNC fusion kit and HobbyCNC Pro kit of board and steppers, about 180-200oz in, running from a large 28v supply. Running X and Y only draw about 3Amps max. Run out of table before max out on speed. Would think the newer 305oz in stepper well over rated for an X3.
My X3 came with a gas strut but about to replace it with a better quality external one.
Tried to run the z with an old slo-syn 34, no go and since gone back to the 23.
Biggest problem was shimming the X axis ballnut block to the cast iron. If I ever restrip the machine, will re make a block and drill new holes in casting for better alignment.
If you get the alignment right need very little torque to move the table once bedded in right.
Have Fun

Hi CnZone Community ( CNC router)
This will be my first time in posting a message on a board. I am just starting to assemble a CNC router with a design from S.Macfalane, so far so good, a few ajustment had to be made but to cutting and drilling of parts is completed. Now waiting parts from different source to complete the motors assembly, controller and software.
I will surely be calling on this community for help has I am a novice is basically all of these fields.
