ok well I am not 100% sure on the measurement. But I used to have 2 of the 7x10 lathes until I decided to tear one down and mount it on my cnc'd X3 to make it into a turning center and 4th axis. So having the old table just sitting there I decided to cut it to fit the end of my other 7x10 to make it much larger.
I think with the live center it will have 16-18" between centers now. I called it a day before I got any further with it, but I just have to attach them together and order a new lead screw. I also have to attach the carriage travel teeth back on, and possible add some additional length to it..But I will see.
Here is a link to my thread for my mill, and I included some pics of my shop too..

ok went to measure it up and here is what I got.
So from the front of the headstock to the end of the bed is 28.25", and from the front of chuck to the end of the bed is 25.5".
With my live center in the tail stock and positioned all the way at the back of the bed, I measured 19.5" from the front of the chuck to the tip of the live center.
So for the sake of argument it can turn a 19" length pice. So 7x19 would be an acurate usable description of the lathe.
Guess this is a common mod? No one seems that interested...
Well last night I got the bed clamped together and just ended up welding the seems shut, so not it is not going to go anywhere.
next thought is to use some angle iron to attach the bed to the table in a few more places. Also I am thinking to sealing off the bottom of that so I can pour in some portland cement or something to beef it up some and give it a little more rigidity..
Has anyone done this mod and also added in some more weight?

Kos, pretty cool work. I used to have a 7x and had a lot of fun with it.
You might want to check out this group.

Thanks Steve
I took a look at that group before and noticed it seemed pretty quiet as far as posts. Did you stretch your as well?

KOS,
No I never really did much to modify my 7x10. I used it quite a bit though and had much enjoyment with it!
It's become a donor machine for parts now. I used the headstock and tail stock off of it for the cnc bench lathe I built.

Yeah I kind of did the same thing. Used on for my cnc mill as an extra attchment then extended this one. But I still have my 11x26 lathe as well.
I am excited to get the attachment done for the cnc though..

Nice job..... I have thought about doing something similar to my 7x10. I like the lathe but the very short bed is a royal pain at times. FWIW, If you do an internet search you will find a few others that have done a similar conversion.
