I have this Gross Position Error keep coming and unable to do anything with the machine now. Controller is a Heidenhain TNC2500. I believe there is a MP window that i can widen to stop this alarm. Could someone kindly advice on this.

Here`s the link to the manuals.Time to do some reading.Widening the positioning error tolerance will not make the underlying problem go away though.

Mark, thks for your infor link to heidenhain site. usually what could have caused this problem. Is it the servo motor or the servo drive?. As for what I know it is the motor is moving while it is suppose to be stationary, therefore casuing the alarm. anyhow if you have any idea to help would be appreciated.

First of all you should move this post to the Bridgeport forum which is a bit further down the list from here. There are some very experienced guys on there and you will get some very good suggestions.
My initial thoughts are that the servo drive on that axis needs tuned. You don`t say what type of drive you have,it will help if you tell us.
You may also want to check the parameters first. One of the guys on the Bridgeport forum may have a set of parameters which would help you check yours.
Please post back with more info.
Mark.
p.s. I think if you ask,a moderator will move the post for you.

Sounds like it's time to have a motor rebuilt.

I have never yet had to have a motor rebuilt for a gross positioning error.

Got this problem with my spindle drive the machine locked up every time I started a cycle
Gross Pos. Error "C" . slowed down the spindle to under 800 revs and the machine worked.
one off new resistor in the spindle board cured the problem.this happened on a Beaver mill
but it is something you could look at, it was the last place I thought to look.
