View Full Version : Stepper Motor Size VS Aplication

I am still collecting more information before jumping in to building a CNC router, and am looking for some advice on stepper motor ratings.

I plan to build a 3'x3' table, construction using extruded aluminum for most of the frame and machined aluminum parts for the gantry assembly.

I would like to use a Porter Cable router in my design.

I plan to use this to primarily cut out wood pieces approximately 3/8 thick.

I see a lot of stepper motors rate at 250-300 in/oz, my question is are these going to be strong enough for my application?

I appreciate any advice on this, or if anyone has built a kit of similar size I would be interested in recommendations as well

Thanks

Kevin

Most on the forums are using similar size motors on similar sized projects. read this

Bob,

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. I keep bouncing back and fourth about either building one or purchasing my first one to get my feet wet on cnc routers.

I will keep reading the forum.

Thanks again

Kevin
