Visualmill 6 Launched By Mechsoft. What U Say About The Features?

VisualCAM is the trademark of another company... I dont know how Mechsoft put this name to their product??????

Visual mill is owned by Mechsoft, it then created a program called RhinoCam which is basically the same program.. ready to be loaded in to Rhino [3d modeling software]. The term VisualCAM encompass's all of mechsoft's products. Obviously you couldn't use Visual mill to creat code on a lathe.. so you'd go to Visual TURN for this.. but that too is a sub-set of Visual CAM.

It's too bad they decided not to bring a full simultanious 5 axis to market..in WM 6.0... I'm glad I didn't buy it now [they promised me earlier this year they would.. during a product demo... just buy it now and you'll get a free upgrade to 6.0 when it comes out in three weeks. (demo was first week of March 2007)]..

SolidCAM here I come....

THATS good and i know what u said about three in one ( A single platform for art, mill and lathe). But what about the question in my second post?...

A big company can't be so ignorant for keeping a name of another company product to their own????

U know I love VisualMill the product from Mechsoft, but its new platform name disappointed me:-(
Following is the website of WISE company that have the product with the name of VISUALCAM:

I would hazard a guess that being as the two software sets aren't in the same field.. that they don't concider the name a conflict.. Mechsoft does nothing w/ Electronic's and it looks like VisualCam.. only does PCB layout and Gerber files .. no conflict.. no problem.. <shrug>.. I can only guess..

Hahaha... Okay...me not satisfied yet...:-)

The other possibility is that neither one knows about the existence of the other... yet... --ch

Have any of you tried VM6.0 yet? Alibre is offering a good deal right now. Seeing that I have switched to Alibre Professional V10 as of late I was wondering about VM6.0 with 5 Axis machining capability.

You can look at it here (http://www.alibre.com/products/mechanical/alibre_design_cam.asp)

I am particularly concerned about how good the Post Processors are and Editing Capabilities.

I will be machining parts like these.

Toby, I switched to visual mill from bcv22. I like it alot. So much easier to use than bc. The post is very easy to edit. I am only using for three axis though.

I am using Visualmill 5 since 2005. and it is great software, no doubt:)

Toby

I revisited Alibre's website and checked out AlibreCAM Pro now that I finally upgraded to VM6Pro.
It appears that AlibreCam is still VM5 based. You will be missing out on a lot of new features compared to VM6 Pro, especially in the 4 axis module. Although your parts appear to be 3+1 parts anyway.

BTW VM6 Pro has an extensive toolpath editor which works really well IMO.

I might want the straight VM6. As for the parts they are done with a CAT50 VMC, but a long time ago.

At my new job I'm using a new Bridgeport VX710 VMC with a 5C Rotary 4th Axis. It's a lot of fun and I want to be able to machine more complicated parts than these ones.:D

You didn't mention it (I think you were thinking it) but you will want the PRO version.

I know I have been saying VM is great but make sure you try everything you can get your hands on and make sure that it is exactly what you want.

IMO VM6 Pro is comparable to (and in a lot of cases better than) programs that are TWICE the money.

It is a huge bargain.

Ok I have to ask. What is the difference between Visual Mill and Visual CAM???

Khalid

VisualCAM is a platform for using different modules like VisualMill, VisualTurn etc...They just change the GUI for interfacing different modules in a single VisualCAM...just buy the module and add into VisualCAM platform..

I just downloaded the VisualCAM demo along with Visualmill module and it was very slow...as compared to VisualMill5 alone.....

You can further seek knowledge at www.mecsoft.com

Visual Mill is the name of the mill product. Up to version 5, it was stand-alone.

With version 6, there is a shell program called VisualCAM (1.0), and Visual Mill 6 runs inside it as a plug-in. VisualCam is the geometry engine (where you can draw/model basic stuff), VisualMill is the mill toolpathing module.

The reason for this is to allow other modules to be added to VisualCAM on a plug-in basis (such as VisualTurn, VisualArt), as well as to allow VisualMill to be more easily plugged-in to other programs (RhinoCAM, AlibreCAM, etc.). --ch

I have been playing with my new VM6 Pro, which as mentioned above is interfaced through VisualCam.
FYI
I see absolutely NO performance degradation whatsoever compared to VM5.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but VisualCam is working like a "hidden" application for me.
I can click VM6 icon and VM6 opens or I can click VC1 icon and VM6 opens, seems stupid to me BUT if I had Art or Turn it would likely ask which product to open.

chmillman

If you click on the VC icon, it opens everything you are licensed for as far as I know, I have both Art and Cam opening at the same time. You can close all the plug-ins and still have VC open, you can still model stuff (don't know why you would want to do this, but you can...)

The performance degradation that was mentioned could be the issue that VC1 has a very slow display performance if you have heavy mesh objects. --ch

Nope... I was having performance degradation issue bcos i spend most of my work on experiencing VM5. The first day i installed Vcam, i found the difference...It was slow as compare to VM5...

I still kept the VM5 and uninstalled VisualCam Demo...:(

Well, it would be good to have a specific example to test. A file where something is measurably slower in VM 6 than in VM 5 and the experience can be repeated on several computers and documented. Otherwise it could be a lot of things related to your own setup and personal experience.

I'm not saying it's not possible, it certainly is, but the developers would need a real repeatable example to confirm and if possible correct the problems... --ch

I have been using VM since 4.0
I am/was using VM 5 (pro). I have only switched my desktop to VM6 so far.
I completely uninstalled all aspects of VM5 in this computer and did a fresh install of the FULL licensed version of VM6 PRO.

It is not noticeably slower.
It also is displaying a lot of extra features/ eye candy than VM5 that likely should make it slower.
It can be made faster by disabling shading, grids, stock display, multiple views, etc.

I haven't checked system requirements but this version will definitely need a better Vid card than VM5.
I AM using a fairly pricey CAD card on this machine BTW.

I have nothing bad in my heart for Mecsoft... My computer may probably not fill the requirement for Vcam... I think..
By the way great software.. I didn't cut a single piece by using it, but i worked a lot on it.. it is user freindly and i learn the basic 3D model g-code from it...

Hey Khal
Please don't take any offense to my posts, they are not personally directed at you.
I just wanted people who are not familiar with this great (and underated) software to know that your experience is not necessarily typical for everyone.

Have a nice weekend.
