We have an Okuma Captain L470M with OSP-E100L controller and live tooling. We have the lathe program complete but I need help with programming the .596-.604 slot using a .500 endmill and using our live tooling and C axis. See the attached drawing.
We've never used this machine for more than a lathe and drilling and tapping. I know I could special order a .600 endmill but they need this part finished in the next couple days. Is there anyway to create the slot?

you can create this slot using tool comp. your manual for the machine should have specics on this but g41 is your comp left and g42 your comp right. most machines are finicky about which "view" to consider your left and right. as far as your "c axis", some lathes have g12.1 and an additional g16 code to automatically convert your "y" axis into "c" axis degrees. the drawing a got was for a 19mm slot, which is .748 i was sure exactly where your .596 slot was. any extra clarification you can provide will get me closer to giving you a much more detailed answer. you will also need to change axis planes (ie g17, g18, g19)
OK... Sorry for not being more specific. The drawing shows the slot with a dimension labeled "19". I forgot to change the dimension. The 19 refers to our control plan feature number and is just an arbitrary number. I have corrected the drawing in this attachment.
OK, so what you are saying is that G41 and G42 will rotate C axis to compensate for the smaller cutter?
Thanks for all the help and any help "dumbing it down" would be helpful.

if you are in g12.1,g16 yes, however it looks as though you do not need this. to climb cut it looks like just g17, g41(comp left). you will also need to make certain that you have the correct tool tip point in your offset page.
