Hi, I scan a small part on my CNC router with a 3D laser scanner from Optimet, I am getting files such as .stl, .raw or .dxf, can someone explain me what to do with the file so that I can use it to make a toolpath, I know it's mesh drawing, what software would I need to process that file to be able to machine the part.

Most good CAD programs will let you import stls no problem -- but if you want to go right to cut and not do any adjusting, for about 50 bucks STLWork2 will make the Gcode for you. If you need to translate the files, a partner program is pretty good too -- ACUTRANS. They may still come bundled in a special. Not a dealer or associated - just real good value.

for debogus, what other softwares would you recommend beside Cut3D, I have this .stl file of 4.5GB (mesh type) comming from a scan that I did with a 3d laser scanner, I tried with Cut3D and it won't open, it did the one of 2GB but it took about 8min. to load with a pretty good computer P4, 3GB RAM. I tried with another powerfull computer (it can be use as a server from Dell 16GB RAM) to load that 4.5GB file and no succes. So what are other solutions, price is not an issue. Thank you.

I have meshcam and it will open stl files from MOI(beta testing free version)
I'm just a hobbiest tinkerer so price is the biggest issue.

You said that it opened smaller files so its not a combatability problem (stl just the wrong flavor)

I dont know ,search up the food chain abit ,Rhino has a cam now ,dont it ?

I do know that big files are slow if not impossible on my computor ,but Im running only 2 gig and 2.4 ghz athlon with a not so neat video card( was cool about 3 generations ago)
